    What have I done wrong!?

    Hi guys

So basically I've fitted the coilovers to the 180. All went well in fitting them (apart from losing a 12mm bolt for one of the rears so I need one of anyone has one) but when I took the car off the jack I was confronted with this -

Wtf!? So they're HKS Hipermax D coilovers. The rears are halfway down with more to go and the fronts look like this -

What have I done wrong? The car should be much lower than this! The bottom doesn't wind up into the cup. Very strange indeed. Any help appreciated!

Are you sure the cup isn't threaded? Looks like the threaded dampervshould wind down into the lower cup.

I'm guessing they are old? Wind the lower ring down a lot and lock with the upper ring.

    What do you mean dude?

This is one of the fronts

Dave they're inverted I think. The lower the lockers go the higher the ride I think

Aren't those the old school ones people used to have helper springs for. as Mr taylor above says wind them down.

I think there came a point where suspension manufacturers realised that they could use a generic damper unit and just supply different upper and lower mounts... Then fob you off with BS about spring preload...

That's a bit harsh. Having ride height independent of preload is advantageous. I'm running 10mm preload with standard ride height.

    Thanks for the response dudes

Jonny - see my second pic. In that pic my preload is wound roughly 3/4 of the way and the car is still sitting high

Seriously, are they the right springs for the coilover bodies ? They look much longer than the ones you get on, say, Apex coilovers and they are progressively wound, not linear.

Are you sure these coilovers do go low? Quite a few Japanese branded coilovers don't tend to go "low" i.e. Tein's

Going from other pics I've found they are the right spring

Jordan - the way the coilovers are sitting is wrong. I know Tein etc don't go low but they sure go a shit load lower than this

Anyone want to buy these then?

Have you got them on the right side. The 2nd pic looks like front left, I am sure the brake pipe holder should sit at the the front. That pic looks like it's facing the rear.

You could get smaller springs, just measure yours and see if they have something suitable.
