    Holy Arch Gap Batman!

I have just got these 17" Super Advans in the expectation that they would help fill the massive chasm known as the s13 wheel arch. Surely, I thought, they would take up more space than the 15" stock wheels (on balloon tyres admittedly). Nope.
So, the tyre is low profile (205/40) do you guys/gals think it will look a much better fit with a higher sidewall on the tyre and if so what size?
Oh and no I'm not going to buy coilies, to hard and too expensive. I will have to settle for the knackered agx kybs with 'lowered' apex springs for now.
pss, yep blue is horrible and the tyres flat. I'm in the process of refurbing them.
    Cheers

How low would it take the car? It already has a 40mm drop with the setup I've got now.

I'd stick the original (16") tyre sizes into a calculator to figure out what size you need to get for the 17"s to keep the rolling radius more or less the same. If you go too big or too small it'll mess your speedo reading / actual speed ratio up, and alter your fuel consumption either way as well.

    Good one here http://www.willtheyfit.com/

Thanks Parky, yea I was aware of the change it will have on my speedo and odometer. Tbh I'm not that bothered if it is out by a couple of %. I'm more keen on aesthetics at this point. I'll check the site out for piece of mind though. Cheers

Parky s13 are 15" as standard

Don't think you will get any lower if there is already a 40mm drop without coilovers tbh, unless you go pikey spec and cut the springs! Guess you could always stick a couple of bags of concrete in the boot lol

205/40 is way too skinny. 215/45 or 235/40 is closest to the standard tyre height. 225/45 is also an option but is a little tall.
I'm NOT the Chairman anymore, Ken was. He still likes poo though. Its not Jim either now. Ooh ooh, its now Doc!

The thing is, fitting larger wheels/tyres will raise your ride height, so even if you reduce arch gap on top, your adding inches on the bottom.

Your wheels aren't the issue mate, your suspension is. Unfortunately, the only way to get rid of the arch gap is to change it.

That's what I was thinking. I'm not expecting miracles, i just want something similar to the original gap and to maybe just pass the "Shoe Test". So basically in total a wheel and tyre roughly the same or slightly larger diameter than the stock wheel and tyre presently on the car.
New suspension is out of the question as I just got the agx's.

I think even with balloon spec tyres you'll still have a pretty big arch gap tbh

Personally I'd be selling the 40mm and getting a decent set of coilovers, they don't have to be hard you can get softer ones too. Especially since you don't want to drop it a lot you wouldn't have to worry too much about camber adjustment either

i you go for a 205 50 17 that is only slightly bigger than stock wheels and will have a 50mm larger diameter so put you 25mm closer to the wheel arch.

Yep, already have 205 50 17 to stick on so I think I'll be getting 2 more.

Any thoughts on colours? I'm thinking all polished. Or polished lip and anthracite centre.

Ive just noticed in the pic you still have the jack under the diff. I presume the car wasnt still sitting on it when you took the pic and that it was taken straight after dropping it down? You know the car will settle a fair bit which will help lose some of the arch gap?

Yea Steve I had just dropped it down. Didn't think about it settling though. That's good.

Bigger profile is needed, Id go 45, then lower to suit.

    Also what width are they?
