    20 with no chance :(

Hi guys ! Just wondered if you could help/point me in the right direction.

I've just been offered a swap for my audi a4 b7 tdi, and it's my dream s14a I've wanted one for years and this one seems perfect ( I haven't viewed it yet ) but insurance is impossible for me to pay for one

I'm 20 been driving 3 years last week. Never had an accident or had points ect just have 0 NCB as I had a multi car policy with my mum with co-op and they won't let me take my no claims over to my audi which is with tesco.

I'm an apprentice mechanic and insurance is ridiculous
    I'm paying £2000 a year on my 2007 audi
Insurance quotes so far for a s14a is £3000. Is this right or am I doing something wrong. ?

    Thanks. Tom.

£3k fcuk me ........ then again you pay £2k for an audi ... fcuk me again

it does however sound about right ... you are young, and its the price you pay for a having a potential future, a perfect bodied girlfriend and the ability to eat what you like.

when you get to 40 you can revel in the fact that it will only cost you £295 .... but then your kid will cost you £800 a month in nursery fees, you missus will be way past her best, and you will be getting fat just thinking about a beer ... oh and you have no potential future .. what you are is all you will ever be !

so ...... pay the £3k and dont complain, you are young, old people hate you because you are better than them !

This is why I thought I would ask. That sounds reasonable I would pay that and snatch the lads hand off for this 14a I might have to give Adrian flux a ring now thanks for the help.

There is no bloody way i would be parting with that kind of money just for insurance for a bucket like an sx, wouldnt pay that for a bloody GTR let alone a 200sx.

IMHO, put another couple of years on your age/experience and then get one.

I'd wait IMO. I paid just north of £1100 on my 21st birthday for my s14a. 2 years NCB clean license. Yours seems to be very high but I'd put that down to age/occupation/location

The obvious things really, named drivers? Where it's parked? Try specialist insurances?

Does it have to be a 14a? you might get an s13 in a classic policy now!

And just to upset you I insure a 3 year old S4 for £310 and my 14a for £380

But on the flipside I'm too fecking old to enjoy them fully!

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

Unfortunately your job won't be helping you. People employed in the motor trade are considered higher risk by insurers. There are ways and means to reduce it though.

    1. Shop around. Providers like Tesco and such are great for insuring shopping cars (ironically) but in general don't want to know about anything sporty, so usually wont be competitive. Try specialist insurers, such as Greenlight etc on here.

    2. Look at security. Approved alarms, immobiliser, tracker, all should reduce the premium.

    3. Join an owners club lug:. Some specialists give discounts for being in your marques owners club.

    4. Advanced driving lessons. Can possibly reduce your premium depending on the insurer.

Bottom line is, at 20 you wont insure a powerful rwd car for peanuts, and rightly so, but you can definitely tilt the balance more in your favour.

    Good luck

Unfortunately classic car policy's say you have to be over 25, which is such a bummer!

I've just insured my S13 at 20 with 0 NCB and 2 years named driving experience for £1700. Pretty happy with that quote for my age but 3K sounds stupid! Like said try get it in a garage and an alarm ect.

Sky insurance and Greenlight would only insure you if you have 1 years experience driving a performance rwd car. Im 21 and currently have a s15 on the way from Japan and insurance is £800 with Elephant, but i have 2 years no claims. However im also a mechanic too

Try getting a quote with your mum as a named driver, I've heard that should reduce the price.

Got to remember 'specialists' won't touch him due to age and lack of experience in similar cars. When I was 20 Sky or Flux etc wouldn't touch me so paid £3000 for my first year! Well it would have been that for the whole year but only had to do it for a few months before I turned 21 and cancelled it and took out a new cheaper policy

Yes but thats with 2 years NCB which is 50% so with zero NCB you would be paying £3200

Going on your mums insurance always seem great when you are young but it will always come and bite you in the arse at some point so best get it out the way ASAP and get your own NCB.

I insure my S13 through admiral, £2300 in my first year of owning it and I got a renewal for £1500.. I got a quote for an SR20 S13 with mods declared at £2000.
I found it cheaper to insure myself as the main driver with two others on my policy and set your annual mileage low as you can, combined with a high excess premium it seems to get me a decent price assuming I pay in one payment.. Otherwise monthly charges whack it up to £5k a year!

Oh yeah I'm 19, work for Nissan with 1 years no claims and I've been driving for two years.. Try admiral dude!
