    Mk5 Golf GTi edition 30

Basically I love Volkswagens, this is now my 6th golf and 2nd red mk5. I traded in my normal gti purely because I wanted an edition 30 when I was buying the gti but there wasn't any available.

    Old gti.

    So on to the edition...

I bought it to have a fun car that's nice and that I can use if I need to visit the mainland. As my old ranger isn't fit and the sx is horrible.

    2007 Edition 30 230ps
    59k miles
    DSG with launch control
    Highline computer & MFSW
    Half leather / tartan cloth
Build number 117 of approx 2500

    Current mods:

Milltek non resonated centre section welded to a blueflame suitcase delete (straight through from cat, much loud) with the big twin tail pipes.

    Carbon look flappy paddle extensions

    Plans:

Remap to circa 300hp (it has the detuned s3 motor so takes really well to a simple remap with no other hardware upgrades.
    Fit my bmc cda intake
    Lowering springs
    Improve brakes
    Whiteline anti lift kit
    Arbs
    DSG remap would be cool

    Next jobs:

New high pressure fuel pump cam follower
    Latest revision pcv
    Latest revision recirc valve
Oil change with the right oil, not the pish the Nissan dealer I bought it from put in.

Also bought her a pressie last week

In the realms of Manx reg plates, this is pretty good (other than MAN 8008) there are a few other exceptions.

Nice... I do like these. Could be an alternative if our little arrival and 3drs star cause too much aggro I am all for perseverance though.

I like red cars too good choice

    Very nice

    I love the edition 30's.
Remember hearing one giving it grim death many moons ago at lakeside and thought about getting one.

Now got a mk6 gti, wish it was an edition 35 but can't have everything!

Guessing it's gunna be loud with that exhaust setup!

Had a look at the gfb recirc valve for an upgraded one?

My 5dr gti had loads of room, ideal for minion transportation. In fact that's exactly what it's gone to do with its new owners.

Yes mate, she's loud, very loud! Makes the dsg 'fart' on upshift sound like a racecar.

I have looked at them but I want to be sure its going to make a difference before spending that bit more on a shiney one.

They can indeed, I'm looking forward to a map first (circa 300hp should be plenty of fun in a scrabble wagon) then look into decats and high pressure fuel pump upgrades as a next step.

It should be yes, only main differences in the tfsi lumps are level of tune and turbo size.

Are the engine internals at all different or is it just turbo (and injector?) sizes and map different?

    Sounds a very tunable engine

In the mk5 golfs, The gti has the k03 turbo & engine which i think the internals are maxed at about 350hp and a high pressure fuel pump upgrade for 270+ the Edition 30 has the Leon Cupra R / Ausi s3 motor detuned which has stronger internals a better fuel pump and the bigger k04 turbo, fuel pump is good for 320 ish, statllers and revo are claiming 450hp from a stock k04 engine with 'no discernable lag' i assume this is on a 3071r size blower too.

Revo technik power figures from their site.

Power (bhp) Power (kW) Torque (lbft) Torque (Nm)
    Stock OE 230 172 221 300
    Stage 1 305 227 312 423 (no hardware upgrades required)
    Stage 2 335 250 310 420 (decat & intake)
    Stage 2+ 367 274 353 479 (turbo back, intake, HPFP)
    # Dyno tolerance +/- 5%

Bought a few service items this week:

High pressure fuel pump cam follower
    PCV valve & gasket
    Diverter (recirc d/v) valve
    Oil filter
    Genuine oil
    Sump plug

I'll update this again when I've fitted the parts as the recirc valve and pcv are bad for splitting diaphragms causing lost power and high oil usage. The cam follower, if not changed, can wear through and eat the camshaft and I'm changing the oil because it was serviced at a Nissan garage before I got it who used the wrong oil.

    Mk5 Golf GTi edition 30

Tonight I fitted a new cam followe, rev G diverter valve and rev R pcv.

Think the cam follower was getting a bit tired, car has done 61k now and it's probably the original one. The cam lobe is mint so that's good

It had a rev E pcv and rev D d/v fitted, most likely original.

Just need to change the oil now and I'm happy with the motor for the time being.

Next jobs are refurb wheels and it basically needs a respray as it's battered with stone chips round the front & up the roof and has a few big scratches here & there

    Mk5 Golf GTi edition 30

The drag racing we were meant to go to today was cancelled so we went back to the garage and did this...

55mm lowering springs I had left from my gti and gloss black wheels. Love it even more now

Had a play with my vcds / vag-com and coded in front indicators as running lights

Went data logging with the new map, according to the gearbox I'm now making 378NM torque which works out to roughly 290-300hp. Those are the figures quoted by the file supplier too

Had a mess round with my mate & his camera the other night.
