I wont dispute its a clean example, but you have got to be suffering from a mental disorder to spend 7 grand on an onion imo

Well thats your opinion and you are entitled to it I think people are mental with the amount of money they spend on AE86s etc. Things like this are becoming collectors items and would be a great base for a concourse car

I had a Onion 1.6 GLSi and it was the first car i spent shitloads on modding i probably miss that car more than my 200s

There's loads of this shit on eBay, they all follow the same forumla.

Find a low miles old(ish) car
polish the shit out of it
put it up for mega money

Whether or not they actually sell for that money few people will know.

Considering it's not a special edition or anything the market of people looking to spend mega bucks on an ugly old Onion must be pretty small.

Its the top of the range (excluding the 1600e but that was a limited run), its no 1.3GL and as for ugly, wash your mouth out

This... Apart from the "ugly" part...!
But yeah no-one would really buy that ESPECIALLY for £7k unless they had more money than sense or if they wanted it for a display model etc... However I do like finding these kind of cars for sale because you will probably never see another one as clean ever again...

there does seem to be a higher concentration of mental retardation in the Ford community as a whole, look at the following RS turbo's and Cosworths have got for what are essentially a little bit toss cars on the whole, Foci are getting the latest generation of specials hooked.

admittedly they are good, but to me the die hard fans mostly come across as window lickers when you converse with them

ford, ford, Ford, FOrd, FORd, FORD, fap, fap, fap, fap, fap, fap, fapping FFFFFFFFFFFFFF............OOORRRRDDDDDDD!!!

I think Mark likes Fords. I just get this subtle message in every other thread in the motoring section

Oh, and agree with the 'have to be on crack to pay that for an Onion' comments. I wouldn't pay £700. Or £7.50 for that matter.

Those Fords are like football, so over priced and over rated.

I like Fords, I've owned a few and I even used to work for them...

But I wouldn't pay 7k for an Orion

That's the kinda car you want to find in your local small adds and then go round and offer them £500 cash and they bite your hand off.

£7K is way too much for an Orion with 3-4 years miles on it. You can get a chrome bumper MG Midget for less than this. You can even get heritage re-bodied MG's for not much more than this - seen one with 8K on the "new" body £7.7K.

An Orion Ghia just wasn't a car that people desired, it was something you bought as it would do the job. OK in company cars you might have gone for the Orion Ghia instead of a lower spec Sierra or if the firm forced you to by demanding the security of a boot. To be worth money old cars have to be the car that people desired but could never attain when they were forced by circumstance to have the grey porridge 1.3/1.5 and tried to tat it up to the spec of the desired model. Even the XR3i wasn't quite the car you REALLY wanted - RST.

Or they have to be "special" in the first place. While a MG "T" is around £20K and 4 cylinder supercharged £50K, the 6 cylinder supercharged version is £125-150K (even for copies).
    http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/class...&S.x=65&S.y=21

The RS500 is not that very "special" Ford of that era, that goes to the RS200. So a RS200 will be worth twice what a RS500 is, which will be worth twice what a regular Cossie is, 2x what RST is, everything below that wasn't desired.
    RS200 £60K, RS500 £30K, Cossie £15K, RST £7K, un-desired sub £4K.

I was a massive Ford fanatic for many years,at one time I had 12 cars on the go and 4 of that list were
    a '69 g reg mk1 escort mod saloon race car ,a '76 p reg mk2 RS2000 (I built myself from a bare shell),
    a '81 x reg mk3 XR3 (carbed not the i),and '87 d reg series 2 RS turbo, I also around the same time had a mk1 fiesta 1100s,
a mk1 XR2 AND a Supersport,as well as loads of mk1/2/3 Capri's and countless other older Fords as used to buy and sell them
so I think I know a thing or two about them, and still like them,(but moved onto rusty old datsuns 8 year's ago)
the thing is the the 1.6i onion was not a true Car of the day like the XR's and RS's imo, the 1600e was only exception purely as were so few made and nearly every one got robbed for its leather and wheels and got torched in the woods, so not saying they were terrible just no way worth that much today and not a potential investment as the fan base will be tiny
now if it was a series one RS turbo,or the even rarer RS1600i (as everyone bought the cheaper XR3i) then 7k is more realistic potentially cheap going
by today's prices, just my 2p on a overpriced onion some car dealer is trying it on with

I remember the Orion Ghia injection being bought by people who traded in their XR3i's.

The 4dr Orion was much cheaper on insurance for the same engine.

There's a bit of dirt around the battery tray. I'd knock off about 5k for that

Yes the XR and RS tax was strong way back then, they even had gas engine mounts as part of the ghia peeps noticing the CVH didn't idle
that smoothly and to get rid of the >, the CVH soon earned the nick name 'Course Vibrating Harshness' as some of the CVH range
at 4k revs sent a buzzing vibration throughout the entire car if you sat at the right revs ,but on a up side an insanely tough engine
a friend of a now ex brother in law ran a 1.6 CVH escort van completely out of oil (rocker cover leaking like mad)
He see the oil light come on when on the motorway doing 80, he carried on thinking get to service's and grab some oil!
It locked solid at 80 and from fast lane skidded to a stop on the hard shoulder, he didn't dip the clutch just let it skid (I kid yee not)
he walked to service's grabbed a gallon of oil, walked back poured the lot in (Yes they only hold 3.6 litres )
got it it and the fcuker started up like nothing had happened! not dead bottom end no tappet rattle nothing,
He ran another 6 months and 10k miles at least as well, then P/Xed it! true story
