    Daze's s14 Navan street-style drift

    Hey guys,

Had this car over a year now and I've been meaning to create a project thread for it over here on SXOC for ages now. Now I'm officially a paid member, and going to the SXOC weekender, I thought now would be a good time!

Its a 1996 import K's Navan aero s14, here's the build so far (very very summarised version!)

    Bought it looking like this

Added my Bride Brix seat and steering wheel

    Bought some Apexi gauges

    Got all 4 wheels matching - R33 GTR's

    Replaced front discs & pads

Bought Driftworks rad and Part Shop Max high mount intercooler for lots of $$$

Swapped the import LSD diff for UK s13 welded

Also installed the rad, then went drifting

    Some video

Thought I was rich and bought GeoMaster hubs lol

    Fitted Takata harnesses

Finally found the time to fit Part Shop Max HMIC cooler

Did an oil change, went for a drive with the gf to New Forest

Replaced clutch, and also fitted lightweight flywheel

Got extended front LCA's made up, 20mm longer

Went to Jez's @ Horsham Developments for a dyno day. Made 285bhp @ 0.8bar, not bad!

Bought & fitted Vibra-Technics gearbox mount.

    Fitted Kouki rear spoiler

    Went drifting at Pod again

Toward end of the day, this happened Part shop max tension rod thread broke

Bought Driftworks GeoMaster tension rods, then proceeded to fit GeoMaster knuckles. Car was LOW!

Got the car sitting a bit nicer, not quite as silly-low!

A mate of mine fabricated up a custom downpipe/elbow with flexi joint to help prevent turbo gasket failure!

    Car was sitting nice now

Bought CS2 coilovers, old coilovers had play

Went to Snetterton for Speedhunters Workshop 01 with Mad Mike & Aasbo!

    Mad Mike signed my dash

    And I did a skid

CV boot split - the first of many!

Removed whole subframe to fit solid subframe risers

    Much fire

    Done

Did some Drift Taxi driving with Clive & others

And some more a few weeks later at Japfest2 Donington Park

Refurbed rear calipers, fitted GKTech handbrake extenders

Went to Ultimate Street Car for Drift Taxi’s, full weekend. Girlfriend enjoyed herself lol

On the 2nd day, car ate through arch loom, set on fire. Spent hours fixing it, then drove home

    But drifted well

    And again

Did more Drift Taxi driving, with Clive again.

Got a new front cross member, already modified for moving rack

    And did the swap

Bought some Skyline R33 GTST calipers & rear setup, haven’t fitted yet, but full refurb on everything

Did some drifting with mates at a DWYB Pod day, car was perfect

    In-car video again

Did another Drift Taxi day at Brands Hatch

Inner CV pot completely exploded Limped home 1-wheel-drive!

    Brutal

Swapped to R33 GTST diff & shafts - stronger

Blew my T28R turbo, so swapped for cheaper T28

As I have one of these to fit when I can afford supporting mods - Greddy/Trust TD06-20G

Bought new wheels - MB Battles from the USA

    Got clear headlights

Got rear arches fixed up & an MOT on it.

Fitted GKTech driveshaft spacers to Skyline shafts

Have all four new wheels fitted, rear arches done & flared, sitting nice

And that’s up to date! Phewwww!!

    Thanks!

A good question. I am doing a drift day at Snetterton next weekend! Between now & then, just ironing out a few small niggles & getting the alignment done again.

I'm also in the process of building up my collection of mods to fit my TD06 turbo setup. I'm going with a straight-cam SR, as I've always wanted one (and they sound badass!), building up the engine & support mods off the car means I hope to have less time without the car working. This is a few months away yet though!

Cool, I have seen you drift at pod a few times, very jealous haha

Sounds good you aiming for any figures in particular? and doing it off the car is a much better idea as things always take longer than anticipated

Ah, thanks dude! Not really aiming for any figures really, but anything of 360hp or more would be good. My current plans are to go with a bone stock SR, so I don't want to push it that far. Perhaps later I'll go forged internals when funds allow.

Been following this on DW. love the car, clear headlights and wheels...everything is awesome!
I would get wider wheels and over-fenders...would make it look mean!

    Thanks dude.

I was thinking about going overfenders for a long time to fix the rusty rear arches out, but I decided to get factory metal welded back in. I don't want to go down the route of overfenders if I can help it, as I like to keep the factory lines of the car as much as I can

New wheels are 17x9.5, any wider on the front I would have problems with clearance on lock. Any wider on rear I would struggle to spin up!

Sounds good. How do you rate the Vibra-Technics gearbox mount? and what engine mounts are you running?

I've fitted them back again (had to remove for MOT). Will have photos soon

Vibra-Technics gearbox mount is very nice indeed! I run Nismo engine mounts, also good. I think a good combination of performance and price. My gearstick barely moves ever

Hey Daze how's it going? Car's had loads of work done! CV boot's are the bane of my life also!! You need to visit the AOC again lol

    The spacers here:

Why is ut you've fitted them? Is it an essential part of the conversion?

Im going to say yes that spacer is needed...it must surely be due to the fact that the R33 shafts are shorter in length?

Ill wait and see what Daze says...

Hey Mike! Yeah CV boots are a pain, eh?

I've fitted them to help prevent shaft failure due to the boots being stretched too much. I believe the reason they fail is because they're stretched.

Not quite, you don't need the spacers at all to do the Skyline shaft conversion...

R33 and s14 shafts are same length
R32 and s13 shafts are same length (20mm shorter than above)

Mine are being stretched (or used to be, without spacer) because I run very low with minimal camber.

A lot of people I've spoken to think that GeoMasters (roll centre corrected knuckles) help prevent CV boot failure, but I think it actually makes it worse as GeoMasters offer a reduction in camber gain on squat, thus the pot joints will be pulled out further than on a stock knuckle setup.

Either way, the spacers *should* help! Touch wood, so far, I haven't had any problems. The real test will be at Snetterton next weekend!

That makes sense. I'll have check back to see how you're getting on before I do my rear geo's... once I rebuild my car

    Cool project Daze!
