Anyone modded a Datsun Sunny rear end for more strength?

I've just bought an '82 Sunny B310 with a 1500 auto fitted. It's not bad to drive, is a bit ugly but has bags of character and I quite like it. Drove it through London and back up the motorway to Derby without a hitch.

Suspension wise, the front shouldn't be a big problem as I intend to fit S13 coilovers, lower arms and extra lock hubs. The rear will need more research but if not coilovers then lowering springs and uprated dampers. Then some dishy 15" rims if I can't find 14's for a reasonable price.

Anyway, I've got an SR20DE from an S15 spec S which is destined for the car to pep it up a bit and I'm wondering if the rear axle will be up to the job as it's tiny. If not, what options do I have?

id say I was surprised, but it would be a lie..

I googled it and you have a H150 diff with a 5.91inch CW+P that will take a mouth watering ~125 lb. ft. or torque before amazing things happen.

what does it have under the back? a live axle or IRS setup.

if your gonna put s13 stuff on the front you may be onto a winner if you have a beam axle as you could maybe use one from a British sports car as they would be 4.5" pcd or have spinners. which would be super cool for drifting.
just like every middle aged man its width that is going to be your problem amongst others.

Little axle. I think people use MG axles or something. I'll look into it when I get back from me hols.

You have many options, depending on whether you want to put a different make axle in (e.g. Ford) and change the PCD. Or try to find an H165 from an A10 or 810/910 estate. Some maybe H190 though? These are wider though and will still need welding for leaf purches etc.

I guess it depends on how well you can fab up because there's not likely to be a bolt in solution.

I've never touched a live axled Datsun, all the ones I've made stronger were IRS...

Here's mine. I did weld the rear diff but now thinking of doing a ae86 rear end swap.

And what engine do you have at the minute? I don't know if that diff will even take NA SR power.

Yours looks a lot like mine, and needs a similar amount of slamming, which is why I've not really driven it at all

I have the original a12 engine..... I know I have to slam the datsun looking into making some custom coilovers.

Cool, I'm going to try fitting the S13 front setup and then see about getting uprated dampers and shorter springs for the rear but I've not really looked into it yet.

Let me know if you're interested in the A15 if you decide against SR20
