Anyone wanted to sell a car because they don't like the owners club? Not sxoc btw :)

    Hi peoples....

Has anyone on here thought about selling or got really fed up with ownership of their car due to the owners club affiliated with it??

I currently own a german hatch and the forums are near useless for information.....nobody wants to help that much and they all seem to be little whiney idiots.

Any issue posted mechanically gets ignored as they either don't know or don't care...yet if someone has fitted airbag suspension to their 1.6 everybody gets wet over it and posts till they have no fingertips left.

It leaves me not loving my car....I really like it and it has been reliable, quick and looks good but I love enthusiaste ownership and to have such rubbish owners clubs affiliated with the car, really makes learning about and asking about the cars impossible.

Makes me want another 200! Fingers crossed in May next year I can have one

    Alex

I thought the german scene would be a little more grown up than it actually is....but I was wrong....Sad part is the local meet is about 7 miles from my house and its the first owners club I have been a member of where I have not wanted to go...

No but I can see how it can dampen the ownership, is there not a mixed club you can join?

I would however sell a car if the 'image' of that car took a nosedive, I sold my MR2 Turbo for that reason 10 years ago, (although it was planned to be a company demonstrator so slightly more important).

Really? I know quite a few German car owners and most of them would put me off buying into the scene!

It's just all about body mods and airbag suspension and putting a turbo on a 1.4 rather than just fitting a v6 lump....When you ask a technical question you get nothing for days then after bumping someone says....oh maybe pm this guy as he might know something...which returns no reply.

Looking forward to next spring so I can be back in jap rust, I mean metal

I'm not sure why but I think you're talking about a vw club. I don't mind the audi ones but then they tend to be more about performance then body mods.

The first time I went to the local meet....there were about 14 cars....I pulled up and opened the bonnet as I was searching for a boost leak on my 1.8t. Not one person introduced themselves or asked if they could help....when I did introduce myself 5 mins later the most I got was 1 or 2 head nods. No " which car is yours" or what seems to be the problem" or even a welcome. Just a bit crap really.

What audi owners forums do you use? The ones ive looked at are all a bit poo. Every technical question ive seen has been answered with "take it to a dealer" or a sarcastic response saying that if you touch it yourself it will implode.

to the op. Your going to struggle to find an owners forum like this one. A lot of people on here dont even own an s body any more but still use the forum due to the other members and collective knowledge of most things car related or not.

Aaah. You arrived, ignored everybody, played with your own car without introducing yourself to anyone.
(I'm not judging, just repeating what you did, for first impression purposes)

I arrived with all their backs turned. Tended to my car to find a fault and then introduced 5 mins later. Nothing wrong with that.

It didn't entirely persuade me to sell the car, the ridiculous fuel consumption may have been more of a factor in that one, but I did get put off Soarers by being kicked out of the owners club

Apparently the previous owner of the car had 'borrowed' some standard wheels but never paid for them, and then sold the car to me with the wheels on. This resulted in me being directly accused of theft on the forum, and the forum owner, Soarer breaker business owner and self proclaimed king of Soarers decided I should give this guy my wheels.
The forum owner was a complete megalomaniac, he was the only moderator and he would edit other peoples posts if they disagreed with him, it was pretty ridiculous, like arguing with a child with a shotgun, so I may have made a few comments about his dubious heritage and limited sexual capacity and left.

Most of the guys on the forum were ok, but it was ridiculously clique-y so very hard to break into.

Hang on, Jem sold me that car, it's all his fault!

It's bloody annoying but I don't think I've wanted to sell a car over it. Not consciously anyway.

Posting up an intro thread and getting no replies while every other thread started before or since is getting replied to every 15 minutes is a little irritating though

Although tbf I seem to remember posting a photo of my Civic up on here in my intro thread and someone saying it looked like a ringer Can't remember for the life of me who that was though!

I use audi-sport.net but it may be better as my cars older so more people are prepared to play with them. Audi addicts is supposed to be good also but I haven't really looked at it much yet.

I use audi sport for mine and the other halfs daily 1.8t a3.

Not a bad forum but certainly lacking in technical knowledge. Alot of answers are "take it to a specialist" and there is alot of crap based around body mods and crap basically.

but there are a good few helpful people that do engine swaps turbo upgrades etc so not all bad certainly not a pinch on sxoc information levels thouhh

Not made me want to sell my car, but did put me off buying one after I posted an intro thread and asked a question about modifications and getting told that I was an idiot for wanting to modify it, so I didn't end up buying one of those cars
