    Cheap runabout for winter!

    Basically looking for a cheap runabout for winter while the 200 is resting! Must be easy to run and tax also only got £1000 budget! And no renaults lol any ideas or suggestions???

    you can have a mk4 golf for about that money, the 1.6 s 8v is a pretty reliable little motor but not the best on fuel. everything i have seen on the 16v ones is hassle though. my mates played silly buggers for ages.

    I'd stretch the budget if you can and get a mk4 golf gt tdi. Quite swift, economical, comfy and returns 60+ mpg on a run if youre nice to it.

    almera /primera, focus, old volvo, pug 306, BMW e36, mx5, you're right to avoid renaults though, especially the ones at that price!
