    Private plate

I've just had a private plate and was wondering the procedure for putting it on my car at the moment the car has no mot or tax have I first got to mot and tax it then change the plate over or can it be done before the mot and before I tax so that on the certificate it's the new reg shown on it etc if anyone knows could they let me know
    Thanks

It will probably have to be done after, and will likely be easier aswell and you send off the mot cert with the application

They'll send you a cert with the new reg on it anyway.

you have to write to your local DVLA office and "apply" for the swap, did our Volvo last year

Don't know if its still the same but when I did mine both the vehicle its coming from and the one its going to had to be fully road legal.
Unless the reg is on retention of coarse.

When you do the swap you will be issued with new docs anyway so nothing to worry about there

The one it's coming off doesn't have to be taxed if it was taxed within the last 12 months and the tax wasn't cashed in. Something like that. It's all on the form.
