Caught by community speed check, intention of prosecution?

I got caught last week by a little gay community safety checker, thought I would just get a letter of warning, but my old man just rang me this morning saying the letter says intention of prosecution for speeding. Doing 39 in a 30??

Does that mean I'm getting done? I was under the impression you couldn't get done by these losers? It's my first time getting caught to....

On the Norfolk constabulary website it says they will send 2 warning letters then persistent offenders will be targeted by police? But this is my first time?

Can anyone shed some light please.

I think Norfolk is the most anti car county in the UK

Might be an idea to ask someone like Prior to get some proper facts

    Norfolk is anti-everything

From what I've gathered the speed guns aren't regularly calibrated and they don't take your picture, just write down your numberplate.
Obviously that is wide open to abuse, especially if someone has it in for you because you drive a 'stupid loud car'

I thought the police need to catch you themselves to give a ticket.

Shiit, iv looked on the Norfolk constabulary website and it did say on there 2 warning letters.

The lads on camp too said it would all be fine and I'd just get a warning letter, the little loser was pitched up right outside camp entrence sat on a deck chair with a speed gun.

Is it a proper NIP, can you scan or take a picture and post it up?

What does nip mean? nd not at the moment no, I'm on camp and the letter has been sent to my parents address, my dad just said it said intention of prosecution and then asked for me to fill in my details and send it back with 20 days.

I will try and get him to send me a picture.

It means Notice of Intended Prosecution.
It will say when and where the offence took place along with what section of the road traffic Act you have committed the offence.

You should get on the phone to your old man and have him read the entire letter to you, to make sure it's a genuine NIP and not just a warning.

I will bell him in abit and let everyone know. But from reading on the internetz (don't know how much is fact)
    - there has to be a warning sign saying speed check, there wasn't.
-for a prosecution to happen their has to be a copper with him.
    -you get a warning befor.

Also I can't bin it as it says if not returned within 20 days I can face 6 points and a £1000 fine.

Pipe down about "the little losers" though, my dad does that and it stops people like you doing 30% over the limit through villagers like ours. Dont take your lack of judgement on a good samaritan who is volunteering to keep speeding out of the places where we live. Theres a good chap

That sounds promising, but why would it have the indication of prosecution at the top? Just to scare me?

well if you fail to respond to a notice of intended prosecution you run the risk of being charged with "failing to provide details" which carries up to 6 points and £1000 fine. But it's only the police and safety camera partnerships that can request that afaik

How sad and meaningless does someone's life need to be, that they feel the need to waste their free time holding a speed gun at the side of the road? Maybe they should get a hobby, maybe, I don't know, cars or something?

Yeh it was a safety camera that did me, one of those civilian community ones.

I'm going to fill it in and send it back but I was just wondering wether I'm getting stung with a fine and points.

    It's called being retired

I can sort of understand their point, if they have a problem with speeding and the Police do not have the resources to erm, well, police the issue, there is not much else open to them.
