I prefer the way a 996 drives to a 997 or 993, if I had the turbot I doubt Id be hankering after any of the older ones either. Mate has a C2 and likes it but admits it could be faster, he has also just had to replace the gearbox and exhaust for about £2400 ........

Really nice place to be though, I wouldnt say no to a C4s or a Turbo one day

I wish I'd have known that before ordering a 987 DME relay, Crank Sensor and Fuel Pump over the course of a few weeks trying to work out why ours intermittently wouldn't start

(it was the fuel pump BTW)

I have been looking at the 993 and the 964 they are the better car for holding there value's and the 996 is a real money pit. I have been tempted by the C4S tho !!!

A friend of mine as a 993 on the wide body and its truly a awesome car - i have driven it and the way its set up its so quick through the corners and he also has a exhaust fitted which is a stage 1 from the states.

I was looking at 996 C4S' a while back, and talked in depth to a renowned specialist, and they said to factor in the engine issues, and budget £5k for a replacement Hartge crate engine (or buy a GT3 or Turbo as they have different engines).

If you are shuddering at the prospect of tyres @ £1000+ and brakes at a similar price, then dont whatever you do, think about buying a decent Monaro

I was researching these a year or two ago, look on the Hartech Automotive website and there is a very comprehensive buying guide. I spent hours reading it.

My memory is shocking but from what I read they sounded impressive and I figured that would be the place to work on it even thought they are up north. They had warranty plans and stuff and sounded very highly rated in the Porsche world.

Anyway here is the link to the guide

You seen the price of GT3's recently?

You could buy a 996 and two spare engines, a spare set of disks and infact probably every other spare. Or you could buy a spare 996 and have change to buy a boxster to run about in in case they both broke at the same time

I'm a pre-996 porker man, the prices keep rising though I can feel the dream slipping away..... so will probably have to settle for a Cayman

    Boring Scene cars.

I will own a 996/7 GT3 RS, With an Akrapovic exhaust, at some point they are my realistic dream car but would quite like a Cayman after my Megane

Uncles has a 997 gt3 3.8 absolutely stunning car and sound. Amazingly good on track but annoyingly slower than his mates 40k remapped gtr on trackdays
But suppose the gt3 can go all day everyday at that spec.
Amazes me how nissan can make a car that technically good considering how much more it weighs for almost half the price.

Porsche have some of the daftest profit margins per car going. Not that it matters, the majority of people would rather say "I drive a Porsche" than "I drive a Nissan".

The badge has ludicrous selling power which is why a lot of it's competitors are cheaper - can't beat the product as a whole so just undercut them on price.

    Damn you Alex.

You see, the problem is, there's something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-91...item3f238447d4
A nice, pure, lowish mileage 996. And that really appeals as an every day fun prospect.

But then you accidentally make a few errant clicks, and there's something like this
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-91...item4d09d051b2
Which was listed for 5k more. It would most likely be a moneypit, and not a daily prospect, but that side profile just makes me go all fuzzy. And the last car that did that to me was also a massive potential moneypit, and one of those ended up on my drive

Wasn't that what the GTR was built for, to wipe the floor with everything from Stuttgart?

    That is LUDICROUS money.

Edit - and they've even removed the name of the car, which is part of the RWB 'heritage'. Ugh, the RWB bandwagon has been well and truly flogged.
