They are the same price as an MX5/MK3 MR2, and less interesting to drive unless you get an 'M'.

I have a 2.2L facelift as a summer run around.

As a daily driver I prefer it to the MX5 and the straight 6 sounds nice

    Z4 - men

    Z3m - men
    Z4m - legend of a man.

Z3Ms aint cheap though....and there is not exactly hundreds for sale.

Z3s on the other hand are common as muck and cheap as chips and its only really the 1.9 that is a massive disappointment.

Thinking about it, it would make a good donor for a kit car.

£1-2K gets you a manual 1.9 or the odd 2.8 auto on 100K+ miles.
£2-3K will get you a 2.8 manual with around 100K on the clock.

£25K will buy you one of the 2 Z3M Coupes on autotrader.

Looks like SXOC has a playa

4 pots are a bit crap, 6 pots are fine though, nice sound and pretty nippy. Will feel better built than an MX5 or MR2.

theres been a nice looking one knocking about the bmw5 for sale ads on the forum for a while.

I thought about it - did a straw poll with mates and the conclusion was i wouldnt live it down and they would constantly take the wee.

Personally I'd rather have an MR2 Roadster but then I'm biased. I love mine, it's small, nimble, surprisingly quick, relatively economical and the looks definitely grow on you. Closest thing you'll get to a Lotus Elise for the money too!

I think you should at least test drive one before deciding on the BMW

EDIT: The car Mark linked to above does look very nice mind... If you're not bothered by probably a 22mpg average

    [Pedant] Those are M Coupe's, not Z3M's [/pedant]
    They're also ridiculously priced!
Actually, I like them being priced that high as it sates my lust for a breadvan a little. Actually, it doesn't, because I've just looked at more reasonably priced ones. Man I want an M Coupe - appreciating assets, as well...

surely you get better than 22MPG out of a 2.8? Isn't it basically the same engine as a 330? We get about 23 average for mixed drives out of our E46 330i Auto Wagon!

My 328 track car gets 30mpg and that has an M50 manifold and silly induction kit on it.
