Chaps, I'm starting to think about which bike I want next. This won't be until next year sadly but I've just seen some Daytona 600 and 650s. I am in love with the red ones. Is there anything to know about these bikes?

There's a bright yellow Daytona 650 in the car park here, it looks fantastic even compared to the 899 Panigale next to it.

I had a red 600. It was an absolute pig reliability wise, burnt through 3 stators in the space of 2 months which is apparently really common. There are apparantly fixes if you are dead set on getting one just Google Daytona stator issues.

Other than that it is a lovely bike to ride but very tall so you need an inside leg of 32" absolute minimum. Always get the 650 over the 600, apparantly makes an enormous difference in the power delivery. My advice, get a gsxr600 SRAD

Oh that's a shame. I can't be doing with it throwing its toys out the pram all the time I'm 6ft 2" so the height isn't an issue though.

I'm looking at about 2.5 - 3k to spend so for that I could get a k3 k4 GSXR 600, did you suggest the SRAD for any reason in particular?

    Cheers!

No particular reason other than I thought that was the kind of budget you were looking towards. All Inline 4 600s are much of a muchness to be honest, CBR Fs and RRs are generally longer in the leg so may fit better if you are tall.

Definitely agree with Rory about the 600 vs 650. 650 is a much improved bike. Get a 650.

If you can stretch to it, the 675 is a nice bike and a bit different as its a triple.

I don't think I can stretch to a 675, I reckon 3k will be my ceiling. Shame because I popped to the local Triumph dealer for a look around and they had a brand new looking Ducati 748 in red... They wanted just over 4k for that.

What are your tick boxes for what you want in a bike? apart from price

At 6'2", you wouldn't enjoy a 748 You'd be begging to be put out of your misery after 50-60 miles and you would have spent those miles wondering where the bike was as all you could see out of your helmet was the road ahead.

Definitely not a 748 I'd love one too, but I look like an ape on one

Haha! This is annoying, every time I look at something and think 'yeah, I can see myself on that' it turns out to be too small or well known for breaking

What I would like for no more than 3k is a 600 class sport bike. Something a little different would be great. Which is why the 748 is appealing, and stunning. It doesn't have to be the fastest 600ish machine but I ride all year round (so far) and it's my only transport apart from the Mrs car but she uses that for work etc.

I do love a screaming inline 4 but I am starting to feel like I want something different so the 748 comes up again. I know there is an Aprilia and are a bigger bike than the 748 but they are a bigger unit aren't they?

I think what it probably comes down to is I REALLY want a 848 but can't stretch to that so a 748 would be the next best thing, but I won't fit on it and I might break it

Go out and start test riding a load of stuff mate.

What's your actual requirements so to speak? I mean, you're riding all year round - so a 748 isn't really the best tool anyway.

How about an Aprilia 750 Shiver or a Street Triple?

Naaa I have a naked now and ended up putting clip ons on it. I want a sport bike, the position isn't a massive worry for me unless it's blatantly too small. It's only 12 miles each way to work anyway but I never just do that, I always go the looong way. Jonny saying I won't see the bike is a bit crap though, I don't think I'd like that

I'll probably just end up with a GSXR but it seems like the bike everyone gets, for good reason no doubt.

Ha, I'm sure I'd be very happy with it. I'd have to have an RR though, love that exhaust.

For the sort of money you are looking at, a late model Thundercat could be a good choice.

Its a sports bike, its got a stonking engine, its a do everything, all-year-round bike, they look good in red and white, its not a common-to-see bike and....its a Yamaha.

How about this... 8K miles from new and £2,700 (I bet they'd take 2,500 for it for cash).

If you don't fancy a Thundercat, what about a Ninja ? Fairly roomy, solid engine, sporty. Just make sure you buy a green one.

That Cat looks like a cracker. I think I would go for a CBR over that though, the Cat is starting to look a bit more dated now I think.
