    Pc's gone pop!

    So my computers died
I dont need anything to flashy just something to play high res movies and with the ability to upgrade easily in the future.
I already have a monitor aswell, so does anyone have any reviews on prebuilds or or customs builds for around the £500 mark?

    desktop or laptop?

If you don't need anything flash then you don't need to spend anywhere near £500 . The 'upgrade easily' part will probably rule out most big-brand systems though (HP, Acer etc.)

Are there any other components you are re-using? If you have an old drive to use for bulk storage or an external HD or networked storage you can use? What about the case from your old PC? Is the power supply knackered, if it went pop I assume that's what caused it... Do you already have a working DVD/BluRay drive or are you planning on downloading your media on a big fat cable internet connection?

The more money left for the graphics card, cpu and a nice SSD the better if you want to do a bit of gaming

    Its a nvidia quadro fx3700
Will it be as easy as just replacing the graphics card then? What will fit in the motherboard?

Where did you get your gpu drivers from? Did you just use ms update as thats useless, you have to go to nvidia.

Chances are its shagged though, if its crashing in videos and browseing (both activities that will leverage a gpu) then its prob that.
Make sure its totally clean and the fans going.

    Ahh ok fair enough.
I got them direct from the nvidia website.
Ms update never found any updates.
The card was clean and the fan was spinning.
Does explain alot as pixels on the screen started to go random colours just now

The 8 series is fairly old now, so a lifetime of 6 years wouldn't be too bad... To have a quadro in the first place I'll bet you've been pushing some worth through it as opposed to a few hours gaming a night. I know a few people who have had 8 series cards burnout in the last few years.

Have a look at the other thread in there! Plenty of suggestions on what to buy in there!

Is their anything that people would change at all and still keep it around that sort of cost (£660) or lower

Hi mate. I don't know if you are interested but I built my own pc literally November. It is an i5 overclocked at 4.4ghz with 16gb ddr3 ram. 1tb hdd, 240gb ssd, 3770 gfx card on an asus z77 motherboard. Runs like a dream. It's in an antec 902. I'm contemplating selling it to repair my 200... It cost me £770 and is a real gaming pc. If you are interested drop me a pm and we can try sort something. Only reason for sale is to fix my car.

    Cheers!

Thanks mate but its all going on the card so would rather buy new.

Cluck, if you see this and can be competetive with any of the prices let me know, would rather give my money to someone in the club than a random site

Hi mate. Appreciate the request but I suspect my pricing will be way out plus I can't get exactly the same parts you've listed. For example :-

Asus P88Z77-V LX (not LX2, but not sure on the difference) - £100
    Intel Core i5-3570K - £200
    8GB (2 x 4GB kit) Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 XMP 'beast series' RAM - £55

So £355 inc. VAT without the bigger CPU cooler and that's making about £15 profit . I can get the processor a bit cheaper, but nowhere near the prices overclockers are charging .
