Flywheel Bolt Spec? Reuse or Replace?

I've managed to get a friend to use his garage over the weekend to fit my ACT HD Organic and Lightened Flywheel and it's the only time we can use the garage this month.

I've pretty much got everything set to go ahead for the job and I have only just seen that flywheel bolts are 'stretch' and it's gotten me worried.

I called Nissan and they won't be able to ship out the flywheel bolts till at least Wednesday as they have very little in stock and they want something like £8 a bolt minus VAT, which isn't exactly cheap.

Does anyone know the spec of the Flywheel Bolt? Can they be sourced from a local bolt stock holder?

Or should I just clean out the threads, loctite the bolts and throw them back in?

The car is a 14A on a S reg, the flywheel has never been off before.

I reused mine and I know plenty other folk do, but it's not recommended, certainly not if you've become attached to your feet

Looks like they're going back in!

I've read up the torque settings is 94-101 ftlb for Flywheel Bolts & 30 ftlb for the pressure plate

I wouldnt re-use them Yes I know you will get people say they have and its fine but i am sure they wouldnt be too bothered if you was the unlucky one

Pop into your local Ford dealer and ask for some flywheel bolts out of a Focus Tddi. Give me 5 mins and I will stick the part number up

As above. ARP bolts are cheap as chips for the flywheel.

You're always supposed to replace flywheel bolts but I never have, (I've done loads of clutch changes over the years, not just a one-off), I don't know anyone who religiously uses new bolts. It's your choice though.

This isn't a criticism of you Alex, so please don't take it this way. But it always makes me chuckle when people are so quick to change very expensive head bolts in their engine in case the old bolts fail and cost them money, but are so reluctant to change items like flywheels bolts that, in theory, if they failed would cost you money and chop off your legs

    Very backwards IMO.

I use new bolts every time for the flywheel. I didn't use to, until I told the missus about flywheel escapes and pointed to where it sits in the 200.

Ford FINIS number is 6123490 and there are £2 each

the tightening procedure is all bolts to 15-20Nm then all bolts 45 degrees followed by all bolts another 45 degrees.

Just ordered 8 now and they are all in stock for me to collect later. Came to a whopping £16.31 for all 8.

    Thanks Mark

I would recommend you to use new pressure plate bolts aswell, mine broke as long as I shifted to 3rd gear during the first drive, I had to buy a new clutch again.

Must have been over tightened they are normal bolts just with a serrated head.

Any idea if they're the same bolts for an RB25 flywheel? I need some shortly.

I re-used mine on my SR and it's been fine, but I wouldn't do it again. In my defence I didn't know at the time the dangers of re-using them.

Iv used the ARP bolts, the advantage is you can reuse them many times (arp-254-2801), torque spec availbe on the ARP site.

Are about £40 from a UK suppiler.

No those bolts weren't in the best shape but we reused them, big mistake, I'm just warning from my personal experience.
