    Mobile Phone in USA

I'm going to NYC in a couple of months, staying for 2 weeks.
There's a few of us going so it'd be nice to be able to contact each other during the day, to meet up for dinner and all that shit.

I was wondering if it's possible to get PAYG sims out there, if I could take a couple of unlocked mobiles and drop an American sim in??

Will that work as long as I stay away from CDMA networks?

I think as long as your phone is tri-band GSM you should be fine assuming you can legally purchase a pay as you go sim as a non American.

A lad I work with got an AT&T PAYG sim to use when he was on holiday in the USA. There's a load for sale on ebay, that's where he got his from.

I've bought myself a worldsim to use over there when I go on holiday next month.

You'll need to stay away from Verizon, Metro and Sprint as they are CDMA... AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM
