    Gearbox has massive play!

Was driving home from the pub last night when I caught second gear (crunched going in).

Since then my box has developed
About 2" of left to right play and about 1" up and down, this is while in gear. In 4th if you pull down it feels like you're hitting a plate or something. My guess is either I have naffed the linkage, or effed a fork. Ideas anyone?

    Cheers

Well it sounds like it could be the shifter or the bush on the bottom because the up down movement is controlled by the shifter balljoint and has a circlip holding it down. Have a look and see if its popped out?

Yup, the wee plastic bush on the end of the shifter could have gone awol.

Bush is only £3 from nissan. Mine had that much play when it went.

100% a shifter issue. Put your stock one back in if you have it.

Get a bush from nissan, they are usually next day and about £2.70. 5 minutes to fit too!

Think I might just buy a new short shifter for her anyway... The old one was clunky as hell and didn't feel like the best quality tbh. Either way for £4 I'm going to try the new bush first and see how it changes it - albeit I'm doubtful it will make much of a difference..

If your old bush is located properly and not missing changing it for another will make little difference.
