Average price for clutch fitting/where to go? (near Eastleigh/Southampton)

    Hi guys,

Looking to get my clutch replaced as it's slipping at higher revs.

Any recommendations as to where? I live in Eastleigh so anywhere local ish?

How much generally does fitting cost?

I have had a quote from RAW motorsport for £435 (£255 for an Exedy Organic clutch and £180 fitting).

I know this clutch is available from Apex for £229, just considering my options.

    Cheers
    Sam

    hi mate

£180 fitting is probably a bit on the rich side - a fully equipped garage should be able to pull a clutch change off in under 3 hours. Last one I did was 3 hours and that was lying on my back in a puddle of devils piss gearbox oil

That's what I thought, and I'm no mechanic.

This is the same garage that quoted me £115 to fit my front brakes. I have the discs, and calipers (with pads fitted) it was just a case of putting them on. I'd have done it myself but the bolt holding the brake line on (NOT on the caliper end) is seized. If that bolt was freed up, it's only a quick job really. Those brakes are still sat at home in my garage at the moment.

I'm just not sure where to call for quotes as I haven't kept cars long enough in the past to need to replace the clutch :P

LOL. I'm sure someone local will have a garage recommendation, has to be one down there somewhere.

£100 is more like it for a 200SX.

    Remove prop,
    drop off box,
    remove clutch,
push on, align and tighten up bolts on new clutch
    refit box
possibly bleed through the clutch fluid.

I recently got charged less than 100 quid to do basically the same job on my S13 (clutch pivot ball had gone) including refitting the master, slave cylinder and hose and replacing gearbox oil and brake fluid.

I usually pay 120quid for a box change when i cba. But my car is a pita to get on a ramp and if anything gets damaged its paid for.

    So 100quid seems pretty good.

    Forgot about this topic..

Had a few other priorities recently and barely driven the car recently. This is back up to the priority list now though.

I have had a couple of offers around the £100 mark. Waiting for someone local to get back to me tomorrow.

Had a couple of garages turn me away because we were unable to get my car into their workshops/on ramps as it was slightly too low lol.

PM/text me (if you still have my number) tomorrow to remind me and I will let you know what this guy says if he will do it for a good price.

Can't get it on the ramp that's a lame one. 2 and 4 posters you can bring a car in as low as you like with a couple of bits of wood and a low entry jack it will be in the air in no time. Lazyness is what it is. Shame your not closer.

To be fair the last one I went to did have a big ramp even to get up into their workshop, although yes getting it onto the 2 post lift inside would have just been a bit more effort than he could be bothered with!

Wish I was closer to your workshop! Cheers for the rear callipers by the way Gav, they arrived the next day and only had time to un-package one so far but looks good.

LOL!!! I was quoted a minimum of 10 hours to fit the clutch at £55/hour. Needless to say I didn't give him the job!

There is a garage in Portsmouth (London Avenue Garage) who will fit the clutch and brakes (front and rear callipers and discs) for £200 which is a pretty fair price! I was just trying to find someone closer but it's only 30 minutes away so might just go for it.

Because the car is so low-low, he's having to pay 4 big burly blokes to lift the car up by the wheel arches for 2 hrs while he gets underneath to drop the box off. Plus his 2 hrs, that's ten hours, see ?
