Hi, i would like my niece to come and visit me, she is 14 and would be travelling from Glasgow to London on her own. Can she travel on her own by plane or train safely? When i was younger, a long time ago, i could, but have things changed??

Shouldn't be a problem at 14
Depends on the kid. Some 14 year olds are more mature than others but if its only 2-3 trains then I can't see a problem. Does she have a glasweigen accent? That would scare most southern weirdos off
she would get dropped off at an airport, but would she get guided to the arrivals area when she got off in london, i don't even like doing it and i travel the wolrd for a job!
At 12, my cousin flys over to us fine. Says the only bit he didnt like was finding stuff in airports. For the return we spoke to the staff, someone stayed with him the whole time, showed hom where to go
By plane yes. Ive seen it often. They get priority boarding and usually an escort on and off he plabe through the airport. My mrs used to do it when she went to turkey to see grand parents too.
By train i wouldnt do that tbh. Its a long way. Alot could go wrong if they have to change etc. It stops in lots of places. People getting on and off i wouldnt be happy as a dad.
My son is 10 and he has been flying, guided by a stewardess since he was 5.
Drop off att departure gate and picked up at arrival gate.
No problems at all.
If she's sensible I can't see a problem - by the age of 12 I used to travel between home/grandparents etc by coach and train with no issues, at 16 I flew to austria on my own and found, payed for, took a train (including at least one change as I remember things) halfway across the country to stay with some friends of the family (Same again on the return).
The only difference between now and then (90's) is that the media spend more time sensationising how dangerous the world is for children...
My daughter is 13 coming up 14 and she's a sensible girl.
If she wanted to and I was very confident of the person picking her up at the other end, I would put her on a plane.
No way in hell would I put her on a train to London even if there were no changes.
On a train you are relying on the public to watch over your child. On a plane, its a controlled environment, there are stewards and security and no way of stopping off on the journey.
