I've been off work today so I'm giving it a good go, it's very very impressive. I'm absolutely bricking it when in a town and the relief when you find items like food or drink is greatIt really feels like you are surviving and not just shooting zombies. I don't even have a gun yet I've not even seen one yet!
It's a mod for Arma2 by the way.

I am on my own at the moment although I just got hunted down and killed by a thieving pair of banditsI'd collected a good amount of provisions too but still no gun ;(
More and more I find myself thinking rather than buy into the next round of consoles I might build myself a good spec gaming PC and use that instead, for reasons such as this!

Correction, it's actually an Arma2 Joint Operations mod. So you need either that OR the standard Arma2 plus Op Arrowhead. Apparently Joint Op is going on sale in a couple of weeks on Steam
How the feck do I install this? Tried the six updater, just keeps telling me ArmA2 isnt installed :s
Do you have arma2 AND operation arrowhead installed? The game version should be 1.60

Yeah you need both ARMA 2 and OA for it to work... I already owned ARMA II on DVD and when i brought OA on steam, steam realised I had ARMA II installed already and allowed me to run it as combined ops.. so if you already won ARMA II its fine just to buy OA on steam
Been playing it for ages its awesome fun.. but do remember its only in the alpha test stage so still very buggy..

I've actually been playing on the 404 server. Is the chat disabled? I've never seen anyone talking on there in voice or text. Nobody replies to me?
will double check tonight... i have not had the chance to jump on there myself yet..
I've not been able to find a 'global' channel, This is the first time I've played any type of Arma2 online so I dunno if it's normal?
Edit: Oh it seems they removed global chat recently ;(

DayZ is a bit rough at the moment and the ARMA engine is a bit rubbish to start with... would have been amazing on Frostbite / cryENGINE..... but they don't support mods
It's still addictive though and haven't really got anywhere on it yet! I can get a hatchet and an AK and avoid most Zombies but the ones that see you through walls and walk through doors catch me out sometimes, lol.
Most of the time I get gunned down by another player before i've even got a weapon!

Yeah you got to remember ARMA II is basically a hardcore military sim game so its hard and not like your average run and shoot fps game.. Also Dayz is in early Alpha stage and probally wont come out of Alpha for ARMA II.. but I believe its going to be ported to ARMA III when that comes out
