    Debate this:

Just for fun and I was thinking about it this morning during a quiet day at work. I came to my conclusions but interested to see what others think and how a debate develops. And how long before it goes off track...

What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?

the unstoppable force says "hello immovable object, I didnt think you existed" to which the object replies "touche" and the universe asserts and has a physics explosion.

I love this question. No idea on the answer (even if there is one) though.

Given that both an immovable object and a unstoppable force are both theoretically impossible it's impossible for there to be an answer.

the universe will split into two identical universes... one with the unstoppable force and one with the immovable object.

How about deception? The unstoppable force convinces the immoveable object that it isn't, really. For just enough time to continue on to its destination

How does the plane take off if it can't get traction?

That would mean the immovable object would have to submit to the unstoppable force. That said, the only unstoppable force in existence if of course Chuck Norris, so the immovable object is bound by physics to submit to Mr. Norris

Planes don't need traction to take off.

Or this 500mph rocket (the unstoppable force) and big lump of concrete (unmovable object) = Dust! ,well the wing tips survive

The unstoppable force hits the immovable object. the immovable object stays where it is but moves the space around it that it occupies. The force doesnt stop, the object stays still in its relative space and the universe moves on to how if its always expanding, what is it expanding into and how long can it keep going.

Same as wot happens when you hit a chisel with a hammer. If the chisel is firm up against something when hit the force goes straight though and appears at the sharp end. So the unstoppable force will continue unstopped and the immovable object will not be moved.

Unless of course your immovable object is completely inelastic and has no plasticity. Then it just shatters cos its a material like glass.

Planes don't need traction to take off but unless they are landing on an aircraft carrier and have a hook they find traction quite useful for stopping.
