Roy Hodgson (born 9 August 1947) is an English former footballer and the current manager of West Bromwich Albion.

Hodgson, who has managed sixteen different teams in eight countries, guided the Switzerland national team to the last 16 of the 1994 World Cup and qualification for Euro 1996; Switzerland had not qualified for a major tournament since the 1960s. From 2006 to 2007, he managed the Finland national team, guiding them to their highest ever FIFA ranking of 33rd place, and coming close to qualifying for a major tournament for the first time in the nation's history. He has been the beaten finalist in the UEFA Cup and the Europa League. Hodgson has also coached many notable club sides, including Halmstads BK, Internazionale, Blackburn Rovers, Grasshoppers, FC Copenhagen, Udinese, Viking, Fulham and Liverpool. Hodgson has served several times as a member of UEFA's technical study group at the European Championships, and he was also a member of the FIFA technical study group at the 2006 World Cup.[1] Hodgson speaks five languages and has also worked as a television pundit in several of the countries in which he has coached.[2]

As I'm in a good mood, I'll point out that to offset Konchesky he did also sign Meireles

WTF!!! Do the FA ever bother to read the papers or do they just pick names out of a hat and hope for the best?

In fairness, Spurs need Harry, he is one of their most successful managers of recent. Questions now is can he hold on to Bale, Modric, VDV, Ade'Cnut'or?

Ade is gone, from the looks, return to city I reckon.

Spurs wanted a £10m compensation package so effectively priced Harry out of the running

Although, how the merry FCUK can the FA say that when they paid crapello £6m a year to humiliate England on the world stage

Rather have Capello and that's saying something!

To be fair, he isn't doing THAT bad with West Brom this season, but he completely ruined Liverpool.

He has a record of being consistently average...... We need someone to shake things up. I would rather have Harry, Pardew, Fat Sam or Curbishley or even Tony Pulis (and thats saying something)...
So many better 'English' managers IMO.....

    In fact...

    Dear FA,

Please appoint Fat Sam so that West Ham play some football I actually want to watch.......

I think people are basing their opinions on what hes done in England only he didn't do well at Rovers and to be fair to him Liverpool are pretty much in the same position they were in when he was sacked even with King Kenny at the helm. He has a wealth of international experience and has done very well at that level in the past aswell at club level all over the world.

To be honest Harry was my first choice but then hes struggled this year with Spurs and has always had money to spend where ever hes been, Roy hasnt and is very good at getting the best out of what he has to work with just look at his time at Fulham and West Brom.

Seems like the FA are saying "We're never going to win anything so may as well get the cheapest bloke we can to do the job"

shouldve been harry but the FA dont listen to anyone, like last time a new manager was wanted everyone wanted an englishman so they decided to appoint an italian that couldnt speak any english.

Hodgson is a good manager but i dont think he suits the international setup.

    Really?

I would say he probably done better as an international coach than he has as a league one.

He's confirmed as the new England manager on a 4-year deal (to cover 3 tournaments).

I wish him well and regard his tough time at Liverpool as a mere blip. Will be nice to have an English manager back in charge of the England team again too .
