Nippon Challenge 2012 - Project S14 finally finished & competitive! (contains videos)

Well after more than 6 years of blood, sweat, tears, more blood, a fire, another fire, constant technical issues, and a bank account wilting development programme that has burnt through 5 ECUs, 5 gearboxes, 3 different suspension set ups, 2 turbos, 3 different wastegate set ups, 2 custom looms, 3 different fuel systems, 3 sets of twin master cylinder and caliper combinations, many fuel pressure regulators, and far more than that besides... we had a fault free run at Pembrey and 3 great races which included a lights to flag dice with Adam Lockwood in another S14 and a comedy battle with Danny Precious in a Subaru with at least 100BHP more than our little Datsun. Here's the videos:

If you've been thinking about taking your SX racing, the Nippon Challenge is a great series with a very friendly paddock and the 200 is most definitely competitive against the 4 wheel drive big power boys. Next round is Donington Park on 20th May if you fancy a day out and a chat. It would be great to see a few more S-bodies out there :-)

    Thanks :-)

We run in the GT300 class which is up to 300bhp at the flywheel and 1110Kg.

Details on the NC can be found here http://www.reddragonraceandtrackclub.com/

Will post a build thread once I've tracked down 6 years of photos!

Oh awesome, thanks for that, sounds like a good series.

So what weight did you get your car down to? I assume around the Minimum.

We got down to 1200 last season including driver and 20 laps of fuel. We're a little lighter now but certainly not 90Kg worth!

Hey Jason, haven't seen you in a while. Glad its running ok, nick said your out on the 20th at donnington so I'll probably be coming to watch. After 5 years of seeing it sitting there it'd be nice to watch it in action.

Awesome car,i passed you on the M4 on the pembrey day! was wandering what car it was and if it was in the club! awesome

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

I'm pretty sure he's using a custom AST coilover setup with all adjustable driftworks arms, whitline arb's and modified hubs. I'll wait for Jason to correct me on that but I've seen the car in bits enough times to have a good guess.

Many thanks for the kind words

Would be great to see you at Donington Steve, it's been far too long (does this mean your car's all fixed and you're keeping out of trouble?!). And yes, you've got the suspension set up more or leas spot on but don't want to give away the special sauce on an interweb forum ;-)

Gary, many thanks for the hours spent mapping, remapping, mapping again, and putting up with angst filled phone calls on far too many a Saturday and Sunday. To anyone that's considering who to go to for mapping, APT deliver race winning cars and put up with customers like me!

Vidal, Pembrey is such a cracking circuit! Proper old school narrow with grass for run off, technical in places and some serious high speed corners. Any advice you can give on how to get round it in as little time as possible would be much appciated

Nice one - Adam said he was having a battle with another S14. I mapped his car not long ago. I might make it over to Donnington - if I do I'll say hello
