    dropped a bollock

i think i may have put petrol in my 1.9tdi golf

i put £25 worth of unknown fuel (fuel light was on prior filling) in and drove 10 miles. the car cut out coming up to a busy round about and wouldnt start. an alternator error came up on the dash so i checked to see if the was a belt there and the was.

i tried the car for about 5 mins with obviously no joy. after around 20 mins of head scratching i remember that i filled up at the start of my journey, oh bollocks... have i? i hope not. i sniff the tank and it smells like i may have

not got the car home yet but whats worst case scenario? or will it be okay?

If you drain the tank, fill with diesel, crank it off full throttle it should start and then be ok

worst case, new fuel system, injectors and all.

Hope for the best, but running the car with unleaded in there is very bad for it.

i done the same thingin my corsa diesel a while back. car was on empty, filled with petrol drove off and 100 yards later it started having a hissy fit and i realised what i had done.

got it towed and the garage drained it and i filled it with diesel and happy days.

i got charged 60 for it to be drained and towed

    well got it sorted today

drained everything out of the tank
    blew the fuel lines out
    fitted new fuel filter
    filled with diesel

    away she went

the AA wanted £230 for the trouble and i nearly accepted thats even through my tsb account

managed to get hold of my dad to tow me so its only cost me a tenner for a new filter. the petrol will slowly get used up my bikes.

I usually stick a little oil in with the fuel to help relubricate the fuel pump as unleaded fuel kills the diesel pump
