that sounds like a nice job you've done, get some pictures up. I'm in need of more inspiration with it solid mounted, does it not shake the car to bits? I have some std mounts to use if they will fit in.

I'm pretty sure i just have the mk1/2 escort one in there. I haven't even looked for an LSD let, must jack the rear up to see!

hopefully I will be using an RX7 intercooler and modify the nose cone opening slighly so I can sit it right at the front of the car.

    Jon
No its fine, bit of vibration but nothing excessive - you cant tell when driving and of course it does not flex or move about which is good as there is no room lol

PM me you email address and will pop a few early pic over - not taken any for ages

The lada diff is stronger than the ford version but would have to mod to accept the ford lsd as there is not one for the lada item

I have done that the nose cone and works to good effect

I sorted some more bits out in the week.

Mesh for the nose cone, The existing stuff is rusty and very small holes so blocks air flow a little.

Also got some to replace the tea strainers, yes you read that right. Tea strainers on the engine cover.

My front brake parts have arrived too, spacers for the 2pot M16 calipers on Capri 2.8 rented discs

and finally got excited when i found some red cable ties at work, match the car colour then

I think this was when the car still had the 1600 pinto in it. Sounds like it anyway. No idea what the carlton was sorry.

Hi Jon, I think Ch1ef is going to be running seira axel, i know he has recently bought new diff, shafts and hubs etc to take more power and stand up to more Ch1ef abuse!

Cool project, really like the idea. No cash for me to try it at the moment htough, would have to sell the sx to fund and I am not willing to do that at the moment.

    Regards,

    Rich

    update time.

got busy with some exhaust wrap, i think it came out quite well. Its a Hdev manifold.

I just need to mate it to this now, T28R for now but i may steal the 2871R from the SX

And then this for the outlet. Bought from Japspeed.

I wanted to keep things cool and safe so i will be using the oil cooler i bought ages ago for the SX

Wiring loom chopped about and almost ready to fit all bar the Immobiliser bits

And finally i was bored at work so made myself a shiney gearnob from Ally and got it anodised black.

I received a parcel from the US of A, our friends Mazworx did us proud again and gave me a special surprise.

thrust bearings, main and BE bearings from ACL

New rockers, Im not going to be fitting RAS. Mazworx said if they are going to fly off then the RAS will not stop them so im saving the £60

Some ARP rod bolts and nuts

Mazworx own head studs and nuts

New timing chain and oil pump assembly complete

A full gasket set with everything i will need, If i can work out where it all goes!

Some Tomei cams, i was going to go for Kelford cams but they had no ETA on arrival so went for the Poncams.

    260/12 inlet.

    270/12.5 exhaust

A Cosworth MHG was also bought from Sumopower

All i need to do now is work out who i want to do the machine work on the block.

right well i think i should do a little update, I have been driving the car about a bit when it has been dry and doing some routine maintenance.

I fitted some Capri 2.8i vented front discs and new pads. Pads were a whopping £7! unfortunately the disks are thicker which meant the already close disc now sat even closer to the tubular lower wish bones. the solution was to remove them and re shape them a little with some heat. Seems to have worked out well.

I received my lightened and balanced Flywheel from a local machineshop. Its now down to 7.3KG but all of the weight has been removed from the outer diameters so it will hopefully have a more noticable effect on centrifugal forces.

I have sourced a used FMIC from an RX7 which is just the right size to fit in the nosecone

I had a call from my engine shop, the bottom end is all well within STD spec and has been honed, descaled, cleaned, measured and assembled. I have had the oil pump machined to match the block. Just need to pick it up. There was one problem though, we didnt realise there was a non return flap in the rear breather pipe and it got a little damaged with the cleaning will be 2 weeks until one arrives from Japan. Only £6 though so not too bad. It will cost £260 for the bottom end work.

I need to MOT and Tax it now too so will have to buy new shock but i have no idea what to get the rears are leaking slightly!

Bit of an update, been building decking so not really got much done to it. Bottom end is built up now and the head has been worked on.

I need to shim the rockers though so need the tool. Anyone got one or do I need to make one out of an old lifter?

Im hoping the shims I have are still somewhere close as they are all marked up still. I guess the only way to know is to try them.

What the tolerance for the rocker? They come in 25micron sizes so I guess that's the tolerance to work to?

They were from Mazworx. I haven't done the machining work but everything else I will be doing. Should be good when it's done. As long as I don't snap the Half shafts.

Glad to see it coming along! I had some problems getting flow through the intercooler and onto the radiator, if your running them directly infront of each other as I guess you are, then make sure you fully duct them to force the air through, with the under bonnet pressure the air really does like to shoot around the sides and not cool at all!

P.S. I have the 7" sierra LSD setup of my car going cheap

What's included in the sierra setup. It's gonna be a lot of work to fit I guess? I'm on an English axle at the moment.

Yes not sure how involved the chance is, but most likely need to weld on mounts for new arms and diff mount + buy new arms (I cant remember exactly how the setup goes as I have not played with one in about 5 years!

I have a 7" LSD diff, drive shafts and hubs taken off my kitcar, originally from a 4x4 sierra. I also have a sierra subframe that could have mounts cut off from it. I think the diff's normally go for like £150 but you can have it all for £100 inc subframe.

You still got your car? Do you know what ratio the diff is off hand? Sound reasonable but I keep collecting parts then not having room for them!
