Another should i buy a BMW thread!

    Hey chaps and chappets...

have been trawling autotrader and to be honest im bored of it all now!!

we are looking for a family car, (space for dog 2 babies and much stuff)

have found a 318i SE estate that we like the look of, 90k odd miles, has LPG conversion and is coming in at about 2400

just wonded if they have any issues i need to look for, if anyone has one and would say get it or not and also will they do the job, and also is this about the right moneys??
if not what should i be looking at, not keen on the focus and mondeo estates, audi was an idea but cant seem to find one without distance to the moon on the clock as an estate (dog needs to go in the back)

    thanks
    Gary

That sounds like a good price for an E46 - I didn't pay much less for mine, without the benefit of an LPG conversion. Mine averages 32mpg on unleaded, so an LPG version should be pretty cheap to run.

I don't think anything mechanical goes wrong with the 318s - there's nothing to them. They are slooow, tho. They suffer the same chassis/suspension issues (bushes/subframe/collapsing shocks) as other E46s. Nothing that can't be solved.

Ignore the people who say the four cylinder isn't a proper BMW. It's a good, economical family workhorse.

Only if the subframe has been seen to mate......

Just ask guy on here....he bought a 330d touring and I believe the subframe tear cost him 4 figures to have fixed! I think it affects early ones mostly so 99-2001 models.

oh and we are overlooking the fact it isn't big enough for 2 kids, all your junk and a dog.....not comfortable anyway

For the same money, bigger, better, more economical, leather rather than cloth.....there are quattro a6's for cheaper than that bmw too

I don't understand why you wouldn't travel more than 40ish minutes for the car you wanted.

Does the LPG not add anything to the price then? I would have said that age of E46 318 tourer was worth £1900-£2000. I'm surprised that an LPG conversion wouldn't add £400 to the value.
