Identfing Brakes - What do I have?

    Hey folks,

I'm looking to buy new disks, pads and shoes for my 180sx. However, its got uprated disks and callipers all round from various other Nissans. I think the fronts are R33 GTR brakes, and the rears are R32 GTRs (with inboard drums/shoes).

What is the best way of identifying them to get replacements?

    Cheers.

    Z32 NA : 280mm x 26mm (4 pot ali sumitomo caliper)
    Z32 TT : 280mm x 30mm (4 pot ali sumitomo caliper)
(There are 2 types, 26mm and 30mm both are aluminium, look similar, from what I've found teh 26mm has the number 1 stamped into the casting and the 30mm has 2 stamped in)

    Z33 : 324mm x 32mm (4 pot brembo caliper)

    Z34 : 355mm x 32mm (4 pot caliper)

    Z34 40TH : 355mm x 32mm (4 pot caliper)

    S14: 280mm x 30mm (4 pot sumitomo caliper)

    S15: 280mm x 30mm (4 pot sumitomo caliper)

    R32 GTST Type M: 280mm x 30mm (4 pot sumitomo caliper)

    R32 GTR Non V-Spec: 296mm x 32mm (4 pot sumitomo caliper)

    R33 GTST: 296mm x 30mm (4 pot sumitomo caliper)

    R33 GTR: 324mm x 32mm (4 pot brembo caliper)

    R34 GTT: 310mm x 30mm (4 pot sumitomo caliper)

    R34 GTR: 324mm x 32mm (4 pot brembo caliper)

    R35 GTR: 380mm x 34mm (6 pot brembo caliper)
The ones pictured are the newer type. From what I've found they're the very same except the older ones only had Brembo written on them. The newer ones have Nissan and Brembo.

    Missing calipers.
R32 GTR V-Spec: 324mm x 32mm (4 pot brembo caliper) for reference look the same as R33 GTR.

Pretty sure measuring the disk (if it's a straight swap from another car) is a good way to identify what's what.

Yeah I knew sizes of discs would be one way. I'm more concerned about pads and shoes.

R33 GTRs had Brembos didn't they? If it isn't Brembo, I just bought a set of R32 GTR's which look a bit different to some others I've seen, and from what I read are made of iron like the 200sx calipers, but for bigger discs. The discs are apparently a little wider than R33 GTS-T discs too, although the same 296mm diameter. Most of the other Skyline options use the alloy calipers I think.

Doing a bit of a search I think the rears are an R32 GTR setup going by this thread of Madda's:

    http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.p...ighlight=brake

However going by my spec list its a "315mm Conversion" on the front? Any idea's about this chaps and chapettes?

A 315mm conversion will have brackets to space the calipers out. If they are 4 pot S14 style calipers they'll take the same pads even if they are Z32, R32GTR or R33GT-ST etc..

Stick up a photo of what you've got and we might be able to work it out from that.

The front pads should be the same. Not as it matters but are they alloy or iron callipers.

Your fronts are r33 gtst. I know this since my old ones off my 180sx are the same.

if they are r33gtst then they will be alloy and have the cooling fins (a bit like a motorbike engine) they will also have a more squarer head the the pad retaining pins.

just buy 300zx pads front and rear. they will fit fine.

Cooling fins on R33 GTS-T calipers? Mine don't have any.

Theyre not fins as such. Just raised.

they are like stripes. s14 cast calipers are more smooth.

Well, I have R33s and I can't say I noticed any stripes. Possible that they changed them at some point, seeing as 296s fitted the caliper like a glove.

R32 GTST's have ridges on them IIRC. I know z32's do as I was under one today. R33 are smooth as well. They don't even have the piston circles on them.
