Earning 45k in London is like earning 25k anywhere else. My cousin was doing a kinda basic porn type job down their earning 35k. Year. His rent for a shoddy 1 bedroom flat was 1400 a month!

Yes but I bet most of the drivers dont live in London, they live in the surrounding counties like Essex/Kent/Herts

25k for driving a fooking train is too much

Exactly. Living in London can be ridiculously expensive. Taking it to extremes can anyone think of anywhere in the UK where a 2 bedroom flat can cost £4million? Everyone in any sort of 'professional' job gets paid a stack more than the rest of the uk. Thats why people commute there, paying up to £7000 a year on train fares.
Bare in mind as well that these drivers are ultimately responsible for peoples lives. A friend of mine is a signalman, he earns shit loads for 'just' pressing buttons. He is however responsible for making sure the trains dont crash and if they did he can potentially kill a ton of people and go to prison for manslaughter. How many other 'button pressers' here have that little added element to their jobs?
I dont agree with the triple time thing though, that used to be an xmas day only thing. I used to work on the railway by the way.
I'm NOT the Chairman anymore, Ken was. He still likes poo though. Its not Jim either now. Ooh ooh, its now Doc!

We are not talking about signalman but the drivers who are the main ones moaning

What about nurses, fireman, bus drivers and the like, they too are responsible for peoples lives but dont get 45k for the pleasure

I wonder what your average easy jet pilot is on

Just looked it up. Easy Jet pay on average £45k for their first officers

So a guy in charge of a plane full of hundreds of people several thousands of feet in the air is on the same as a guy sitting in cab opening/closing the doors

Apparently, I don't know if it is true or not, just something I read somewhere. You don't apply for it as such. More you are picked from within the ranks of other similar trades in the same union.

So an electrician/gas engineer that has the potential to make a mistake and kill someone should also be on 45k a year then....

Umm nope they are trained professionals and would be trained at a level where mistakes are not made, so that does not even come into it, also knowing the potential for disaster during training means they dont have to continue with training and can throw the towel in.

Rather than asking for more money as they do a job that puts peoples lives at risk because they are not trained well enough...

How much do bus drivers get then (this should be a laugh)

Basic appears to be around £30k in London. Average outside of London is around £8 per hr

I know but it was an example of what the railway is like, they pay for responsibility.
