    S13 at 19?

    Hi Guys
I know full well the potential stupidness of this post but just after a rough idea. Im 19 next march and will (hopefully) have 1 years NCB and been driving 2 years. No points and no claims. Im cleaning my s13 up over winter and is has a few mods. I live in 2nd best postcode area (I think!) and just want to know If you have insured any 19 year olds insured with mild mods declared?

Admiral are asking £1950 which Im happy to pay but would prefer to be with a specialist company, even better when they're on the forum!

Or are they any 19-20 year olds with sky ?

    Any help appreciated

    Cheers

best thing to do would be to make a couple of calls in the morning. (although you may have to take the quote with a pinch of salt as they'll not be able to quote for march yet as it's too far ahead, so get a quote with your current age and 0 ncb and see what they say)
was £1950 with admiral with mods declared?

I think that you might be lucky and get it a bit cheaper than that with a specialist if you're in a good area, car's driveway'd / garaged / alarm / limited miles etc.
if you're doing 20k a year and leave it on the street and need business miles etc it's going to bump the quote right up

depending on how much it'll actually cost it may be an idea to have a limited mileage policy, perhaps 5k per year and keep your current car for all your main mileage. your current policy should be noteably cheaper as you've already been driving that car claim free for a year. insurance companies like people who stick to the same car for some reason

    Some good input guys!
The car is a 2nd car as I drive a 106 gti as a daily, but will be changing it for a mk4 golf gt Tdi to save on some juice.
Yeh mileage wise 5000 for the year and it's kept on a secure driveway with gates.
From what I read sky would look at insuring you at 19 if you had 1 years ncb and 2 years driving experience.
The quote with admiral at £1950 was mods declared yes.

    Cheers guys

Age 19 or over with 2 years driving experience is our very minimum criteria but this will vary depending on the risk presented

It's more on the outside of Chesterfield. Let me know if Im just pissing in the wind here

Edit: Just had another look online and it's still showing to be the 2nd lowest insurance risk Postcode and it's a Sheffield Postcode

    Hi,

the S postcodes are pretty high risk, there is lot of fraudulent activity in the area.

We cannot help unfortunately but other insurers may be able to help.

    Thanks

£1950 is cheap compared to me paying 2,400 for me son at 19 in a 1.25 fiesta FFS,
But then we live in a shithole area that's normally on fire

No doubt you need to be 21 for a classic policy with them haha. I can happily see why insurance company don't want to insure a young person on a modified car but it seems stupid that a low risk Postcode is actually a high risk one?

I'm happy to go third party and just take the hit if I crash it seeing as it would be my fault should I claim. It's silly as well that I can insure a twin turbo supra for £1790 yet they want more for a slower car!

Will give them a try thanks Andy

My local broker is not too bad so will give them a try and I've heard good things about Keith micheals.

    Cheers guys

It's not the fact that it's slower, I believe it's to do with the risk of the car, if more s13s are being written off than Supras then they'll cost more to insure because you're more likely to write it off. Makes sense when you look at it like that.

Car insurance is just a joke imo,And i heard similar stories about Supra's are cheaper than 200's,Chap on here i bought me white 14a from had a supra before the 14a and it was 300 squid cheaper
I think silane's right tho its not out right speed more how many claims per type of car
IN that case it paints a picture that supra owners are sensible chaps and us 200 dudes are insane hooligans smashing a car into a ditch every fortnight

Supras are a much better risk to insurers than 200 sx's, simple as that really.
