    'Bumble-bee' My Suzuki SJ 416

ok so here is my suzuki sj 416, i bought it from a chap in lowestoft of ebay after some intense last minute bidding.

what attracted me to this particular sj was
    1. the colour
    2. the height
    3. engine conversion
    4. how aggressive it looked
    5. most importantly it wasnt a complete rot box...

so after 7 hours on a train and a 220 mile return drive i finaly arrived home with my new winter toy..

the 200 felt left out so sneaked in on the last photo.

so the spec when i bought it was

1988 suzuki sj tin top with vitara 16v engine conversion with twin choke weber carb
    413 gearbox
410 tranfer box for lower ratio low box
2 corbreau fixed back bucket seats
    4 point harnesses
    tinted windows
    custom black fleece interior trim
    vitara power steering conversion
    electric fuel pump conversion
    heavy duty steel front bumper
    heavy duty steel rear bumper
    tow bar
    2 front spot lights
spring over axle conversion using 6 in rise saddles
2 inch bigger and heavy duty leafs all round
1 inch prop spacers front and rear
8 spoke sj wheels with the centres cut out and welded back for my offset (no need for wheel spacers)
    31 x 10.50 x 15 khumo kl71 road venture tyres.
    free wheeling front hubs

    think thats everything!!

so first up was to sort some of the little problems out
the exhaust manifold gasket was knackered so replaced that.

then time to weld up the blowing exhaust

then new spark plugs, oil filter and re fit the exhaust with some sealent.

coulpe days later whilst cleaning the back out i found a nasty little suprise. RUST!!

so out came the cutting tools and i set about repairing it..

then i went to seam seal it and it reacted to the zinc primer.

so i cleaned it all of and repainted and sealed it again with different products and it worked fine.

next i set about getting the front wing a bit striaghter as it was bent and dented by the last owner. so i got my panel beating hammers and got to work

found the bottom corner was rusted away when i hammered it back out so cleaned it all up and welded a new corner on to strenghen it up again.

i know it doesnt look pretty but it will all be getting a skim of filler when i get of my lazy arse. (also please ignore the shit welding, my welder was on the blink)

with my welder fixed i found more rust right were the drivers heal sit of the accelerator. so fixed that

when i got the sj it had no carpet so whilst on ebay again i picked up and entire carpet for bargain money.

seam sealed the inner arches which are prone for water leaking in the rusting out. mine were spotless

and re fitted the interior panels

started re fitting the rear seats and front seats

    new passenger seat (NOT!!)

next on the list before i inisured it to use was to seam seal and stone chip under the arch extension and all the arches.

gave the arch extension a coat of satin black before putting back on then re fitted them.

and thats were i got upto at the start of september (bought in july) when i insured, taxed and motd it. (passed with flying colours)

i have a few more updates of what ive done since but will spread them out over the next few nights....

    What you guys all think???

yes i finnaly got round to putting it up. my problem was a few things,

the thermostat was a bit stiff so replaced that,
the temp sensor wire was torn and kept shorting out giving bad readings
and i drilled a hole in the heater box to clean it out to find a forrest of leaves so hoovered them out and now i have lovely warm heating..

if you can fit everythin yourself then heres some price to get to his spec

    2 inch body lift £80
    3 inch springs £200
    2 inch shocks £250
    shock spacers £50
    off set wheels £200
big nobbly off road tyres £400-800
    adjustable panard £100
    castor correction control arms £300
    exhaust £100
    steel rear bumper £100
    winch £250-400
    mounting plate £50
    steel front bumper £250
    snorkel £350
    extended winch power cables £50
    massive gel battery £100
    Harnesses £70
    CB £80
    extended brake lines £50

plus you have to buy a jimny to put all that on.. and he still struggles a little in some of the thicker stuff. but overall its one very tough truck and can take a beating all day long...

I like that! Gav 200 had one like that!

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

next thing i did with my jeep was take it to a local charity drving day in a farmers wood, he had dug up a few small runs and dips but nothing extreme as it was intended for anyone with a 4x4 to come and have a play, there was quite a good turn out with a few high end range rovers and a few free landers having a go. here are some pics i took of the day.

i even made a video of some of the cars that attended that day for the local club website.
