    Puma 1.7- Cool runnings.

Although its never really run warm, my Puma seems to never run at what I would call optimum temp (according to the temp gauge in car). Heaters do get warm but not as warm as you might expect. Coolant is clean but car does use a little oil (this might not be related though). Took it down to Cornwall last week and on the motorway it never really got above the 'n' of normal.

    Common problem? Simple issue?

    Have you checked the thermostat?

All Pumas use oil, its part of the ownership package make sure it never runs low though as the bottom ends dont like it

Heater valves play up as well but generally get stuck open or closed so you are either perminantly freezing or roasting

Is there a second thermostat for an oil preheater thingy on Pumas?

The heater works to the temp the engine is reaching, just wondering whether a good flush out and a new thermostat might help things along. For the sake of a tenners worth of coolanr and a thermostat it might help.

Just thought it might be a severe sign of Forditis!

Themostat - I had the 1.7 engine in a fiesta years ago and the symptoms you discribe point to the themostat.

The heater control valve is also a bugger - one winter mine decided to pack up.... very cold!

My 'stat has also just gone in my 2001 mondeo, bloody fords!
