    400-500bhp air filter options

Can anyone suggest a good air filter for about 400-500bhp? Ive had a hks mushroom filter on my car since ive got it and its crap at filtering part of its job to be honest.

Im looking for something with a 4" neck and something that does its job good.

    suggestions please

A very large k and n filter, they can supply pretty much any size you want, exceptionally good filtration and reusable

Any idea what size they are using? I've been looking on there site and most of the twin
Cone filters are only about 6" long. I'm not sure on sizing or if it's because the are using the internal surface area too that makes them more effective than the size looks?

what size is the turbo inlet? you only need a filter which has the same surface area as the turbo, however its always good to go a bit bigger to ensure the same bit of filter doesnt get all the airflow and prematurly clogs it.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/universal.aspx is a great wee link, and is how i found mine

Whats the power limit of the HKS mushrooms ? seen them on engines claiming more than 450 bhp tbh and their design don't look restrictive?

there not restrictive in the slightest, they just don't filter much lol

its the same with most foam filters to be fair, pipercross etc

cotton filters are much better at filtering but obviously are more restrictive, so its a compromise (as with everything)

^^^ And they also do some rather tasty sponge pre-filters that slip over them that look like this....

imo all those jap filters look way too small for very big power.
I also have a big k&n waiting to go on.

I did test my existing Apexi filter at just over 400bhp. It was no restriction at all when we did back to back runs with the filter on and then removed

TBH I'm only changing because I need a 4" inlet and at about 7years it's a bit scruffy now
