    Rubbish visuals on HDMI cable

I've just finished building my new machine and updated the gpu drivers to find I have very blury text and everything else on my screen, using a 32" HD ready TV. It's connected with a HDMI cable, It was connected via a VGA before my upgrades and the screen was fine... DoI have to use VGA again on this new stuff? Because that would be gay

What OS are you running? On my PC setup I had 7 and that let me choose the output according to the P rating on the monitor and the TV.

EDIT* Sorry I was also running VGA.

    What tv is it?

I run mine on a VGA cable as my laptop doenst have hdmi but when looking for info about the tv I found out that everyone else was reverting back to vga as the HDMI from PC quality was shocking compared to normal HDMI from say a dvd player or console.

Might be worth googling your tv to see if there's any info out there on it.

It's some Akura set, was fine before but doesn't like a decent GPU evidently

On Windows 7 home premium 64

Edit; I'll pop the VGA back on and have a look....

    Ahhh....

VGA is spotless... Why is HDMI so poor?

On another note I've just discovered this mobo doesn't have an IDE port so now I can't use my old storage drive

    Bugger

You can get a pci to IDE add in card to give you a legacy IDE connection, tbh I'd stash it and just get sata drives now instead as its futureproof and current

Yeah I'm going to do that. Just a bit of a bugger because I put everything on that drive to bring over to my new ones

Get a USB IDE drive enclosure. About £10. Makes your IDE into an external drive.

What's the native resolution of the TV and what have you got the desktop resolution set to?

I have a similar issue with my 37" Samsung LCD HD TV and my Zotac N-Force Mobo in my media PC. The output from the mobo is rubbish using HDMI yet lovely on VGA. I tried to fix it, updated the mobo drivers, email tennis with Zotac support. Eventually just gave up and continued to use the VGA......

Its going to be down to refresh rates, resolutions of other advanced screen configuration options, it should work fine.

Have you given windows a driver for your TV panels?

Have you tried another HDMI cable?

I had a similar issue with my PS3 and a PC I'd occasionally run on an HD TV. Turns out it was just a shite HDMI cable. Changed them over and everything was clear.

I've not given Windows any specific drivers. To be honest I assumed it was just a plug and play affair. The cable is brand new, a something 4?

The problem will be that the TVs native resolution is 1366x768 but the EDID (Extended display identification data) on the TV will not list 1366x768 as the maximum supported resolution - it will be something like 1280x720 or 1280x1024. The graphics card reads the EDID data and selects the correct resolutions to send to the tv. The TV then scales the signal to the full resolution.

There are a few ways round this like pulling the edid pin out of the cable or hacking the driver with powerstrip but tbh i'd just use the VGA cable or buy a monitor or a 1080p tv!

It's 1080i iirc does it really make a difference?
