Is it possible that with the cams at the correct position, timing etc set correctly that the chain could be a tooth out?
If cams at tdc are at correct position they can't be a tooth out.

An Engineer at work listened to my gripe recently and said:

Seems you are 9deg off... 9 goes into 360 exactly 40 times... ie its one tooth on a 40 tooth gear out of position.

Thoughts on the above anyone? How would I know which way would I move the chain - if this is the issue?

    I don't understand.

You want to try and put it a tooth out?

Also if you put it a tooth out then it may sort the ignition timing issue but then your cam timing will be out.

Possibly a tooth out down by the crank sprocket? Could have slipped while everything was off and the chain was loose? Just a thought.

Everyone I have spoken to about this reckons it's a tooth out and it was the first thing I thought of as well when I was told about it.

The crank pulley was set at tdc when we checked the cam timing.

Also if the crank pulley was a tooth out would it drive and idle a smooth as it does?

It does drive and idle smooth at 6degree's, which leadsd most folk to suggest its a tooth out.

I know we have check it a million times, just wondering if its possible to move the chain along a tooth?

I'd understand if the cas was a spline out but the cam timing being out to the crank wouldn't run that great either way

Ok, so once again, Mark, Joey and I have checked the timing of everything:

    With Crank at TDC:

    CAS lined up:

Links match up with sprocket marks:

Five teeth up to coloured link (as manual):

Nine teeth up to coloured link (again as manual):

Any more ideas welcome as we are stuck..........

Picture of Mark to scare you:

Lol at that pic of me

As above timing is spot on. That's the third time we have checked it lol. So anyone have any other ideas why it would run perfect when you advance the timing.

Were thinking of trying a different cas next although we don't think there's anything wrong with this one as it does it's job when advanced.

    So it's fixed!!!!!!

Turned out it was cause we were setting the ignition timing with the pickup clip closed instead of open.
When closed there is like 15degrees of difference to when it's open.

So hopefully that will be the end of it lol
