@ Joey - Not sure mate, didnt look at them that closely.... You and Mark on holiday together??

By crank sensor, are we talking about the CAS?

I am using Datascan to set the timing, how would a dodgy CAS effect this? Datascan reads 15* and the crank matches at 15*, surely if the CAS knackered they wouldnt match?

Nope. It's the crank sensor, different sensor.

I don't think they have a crank sensor as the ecu gets it's timing from the cas.

You positive about that? Not totally sure on the S15 (Toppers car is an S15 IIRC), but I know the Evo runs a cam sensor and a crank sensor. It would need both, in order to determing the position of the camshaft and the crank so it can differentiate between compression & exhaust strokes, etc.

I'm pretty sure that the cas is the equivalent to the crank angle sensor.

Everything is mechanically timed correctly. John has pics of everything timed up at the same time just prove everything is bang on lol

@ Topper, do you have access to the S15 service manuals, that will tell you where it is (if there is one).

Have had a fellow S15'r look up the manual for me:

S14 sr20det had a crank sensor in the bell housing of the box that read off the back of the crank - s14a and s15 don't have it so I assume we don't have one, there are no sensors around the flywheel or harmonic balancer and the cam angle reading is directly related to crank angle so I don't think we have one mate...

That makes more sense TBH. However after testing with Johns, it appears the CAS can be safely ruled out, because his is known working fine and it still wasn't right with his.

I don't think they managed to make sure the cas was lined up properly when they used johns. As they just sort of guessed lol.

Thanks mark, we lined it up and wouldn't start, again we didn't have the rocker cover off so that isn't 100% ruled out!

    Knock sensor fitted yet topper?

We know that now, however when lined up. It wouldn't start with my cas! Then we found that toppers car was out of petrol,

After getting my car stuck there for a week the cas won't be coming off mine again! Thanks to mark again.

Stu may have a spare cas from his 2 that he has?

As Joey has said we didn't fit the CAS correctly, but have since checked the cams, chain and CAS are aligned. Guess the only way to check if the CAS is faulty is to try a known working one/new one?
