Hi all and thanks for your time in advance. While in the process of replacing my block I have been doing a lot of research and confidence building on the forum.. After viewing a fair few pictures of people's engine bays most tend to remove the viscous fan and simply replace it with a highflow aliminium rad. Is this simply the modification or does the thick core ally rad have to have the dual fan like the Apex one?

I wouldn't run without a fan, personally.
Remove the viscous fan and replace it with a slimline electric jobby

Yeah don't run it without a fan... you'll be crying each time you see a traffic jam
Keep the Fan -
Electric ones suck and give you paranoia... They also can ruin your car. Trust me
Personally i would keep the fan as it still fits in there with a Aluminium rad if you buy a decent make like Koyo etc.

If you want to do it properly though you should shroud the rear of the radiator to make sure the fans can work efficiently.
That way you optimise the air being drawn over the whole core of the radiator.
I have done this very thing on mine and also used it to hide all the relays and wiring at the same time.
Also having something tied directly to the radiator is not ideal as the friction caused by the mating surfaces will wear out the core over time and cause a leak.

+1 for keeping the viscous fan and shroud. Its a beast of a fan, works great like Nissan designed it to, all you really need is a rad thats made nice enough to keep the shroud intact. Another vote for Koyorad here.
Thanks for all the responses guys, was thinking of just removing the guard too, as I have resprayed the fan itself bright white.. but realise without the guard it would be a lot less efficient at cooling. Koyo it is then i should think, any good deals on them?
