Nice work Clive
Nice work Clive
Been fannying about a bit. Really need to get this finished now.
So, The water pump was slightly different, with the 740 engine being on a cross over year I thought it had a m62b44 mechanical stat (The later ones had electric... **** you MW and you revisions!) which iirc Norfy couldnt get a cooler then 95* stat for.
Thought about using my old one, but that had slight play in the pulley and for all I know could of done 200k PLUS. So ordered up a new one.
Went to the unit after work and stripped the old one off, to find this:
So yeah, a genuine BMW pump, but must of been replaced at some point as has a metal impeller and in VGC with no play AND already has a 85* stat fitted.
So blocked the hole which isnt required and chucked it back on! What a waste of time that was, on the other hand piece of mind
Yeah good mate busy as always should be moving end of the month :-) have to sort summit with the gals been saying to for

Fantastic project mate, great to see the V8 in there. Iv been away for a while so just catching up on all the projects iv been missing updates on. Great work.

Thanks mate It did cause a bit of stir at the sushi show with the german engine in a datsunnn!
So, the car is all back together and had a chance to get some testing in- seems strange after all that hard work, time and over all effort to look back on the car and realise its near on the same as it was a few months ago

I'll come say hi, how much are the taxi rides?
I quite fancy this, bit worried with traffic as pod and silverstone share the same painful motorways
Sunday 30th June, Went to Japshow at SantaPod to do some drift Taxi'ing, no issues at all, even with the blistering heat!

Thanks to Mitch of DRIFT GARAGE for offering to go and grab me one from his unit, but Luckily I had a spare with me So swapped it over there and then
Proper fecked
Got back out for another hour before deciding to call it a day as had 4.5 hour tow home and the heat had killed me

With SXOC weekender fast approaching, I decided to give the car a proper check over along with an oil and filter change.
Whilst at it, I decided I would try everything to make it so my TE37's fit all round, a few hours later I had done it- a touch too much poke up front for my likings but overal was pleased.
Ended up with:
17x9J ET0 on front with a brand new 235/40 R17 Federal RS-R (looks more aggressive then that due to the 20mm in each LCA)
17x9J ET10 on the rear, with my very worn old front tyres, which had been flipped about 7 months ago so had camber wear on the inner and outer edge! total of 14 month old an seen more track work then ill ever know 235/40 R17 Federal RS-R again.

So, Thursday evening loaded up, gave the 530d a check over, then on Friday left for the almighty trip over to Anglesey for the second time this year

Left a 0930am Friday With my other half, Hannah

Not sure if I mentioned it, but put some of those Dare cheapo BBS copy rims on the 530d tourer, 10J ET15 All round, 225/45 R17 front with a 5mm shim to clear strut and no spacer rear with a 255/40 R17
Arrived in Anglesey about 1630, 7 hours with two 20min stops I was chuffed with.
Ill continue with the update later
So, what can I say, the weekender was awesome fun
It was a grip day (although I did get bored when track was free and done some less then cheeky weak drifts! Didn't fancy getting it wrong on a grip day )
Now, I have only ever done one 'grip' day before.
That was for SXOC weekender 2012, I was in a shed of a s14, on budget rears, which one was delamed as up until about 11am we was allowed to drift ! Anyway.
I was really interested to see how the V8 drove gripping- I made NO changes to the car at all, apart from the RS-R tyres all round @ 28psi (These probably raised during the day due to the heat, but couldn't be arsed to check'em...
Here is a few video's from the day:
And another:
No, I don't think I have found one picture yet of me actually gripping but heres a few from the day

Thanks to Mark for this... Sideways, te37's all round and the kouki bumper and g-reddy aero all round
really sweet picture set:

Thanks to Chavbo for this one of mine and Timmi's
Ended up calling it a day, half shafts was fecked again, loads of backlash in CV joints.
I'm going GTR R33 shafts. Lets see it try and destroy them
good work clive, I passed you on the A34 last weekend but was in the daily, I'd have waved if I was in the datsun. Car looks mean
Actually got away from work for a good time, in doing so managed to get the dimensions checked of the R32 GTR output shafts against the existing to confirm they would go in fine and stay in- (wasn't gonna dare just bang them in without being sure!!) both bang on 30.8mm o/t just for incase anyone needed to know.
snapped into the c-clip spot on, sit fine and no grinding when turning by hand.

(oily mess is CV grease )
Also the R33 GTR shafts and hubs arrived today so happy days!!
Thanks Ed, was I going North or South at the time?
What ratio diff will you be using now then? Looks much more manly now
Do R33 GTR output shafts not fit or did you just happen to have R32 ones? Just curious as I will be doing the same. Also are the R33 shafts the right length?
R33 spline O/D are larger so had no hope.
I found the R32 GTR output shafts fitted through some research nismo s15 2way (what I have). 30.8 O/D
Then just so happened Gander has had a pair in the shed for 4 years so popped over his and purchased them
R33 GTR shafts have fitted up (had to use R32 GTR hubs too) BUTTTT personally I'm not happy as they didn't fit 'naturally' and putted up when doing the bolts up.
This would only get worse when the car has weight on the suspension, let alone under squat.
Need spacers in the shafts to be right IMO, but seems many have got away with it!
