Got the 306 phase 3 GTI fans fitted today. Gutted as one is damaged, have superglued it for now + secured in such a way with a small screw but fan don't run true

Fitted them up, fit bloody tight!!
Originally my rad was tilted for the old fans but needed it straight up now for the 306 fans to fit well.. Will get a un cut slam panel off a breaker in time, but for now a alloy metal plate will do!

All wired up, on 2 switches in the car for now.
No.1 switch turns both on half speed
No.1+2 at the same time both fans at max speed
No.2 on its own is fan 2 at max speed.
So got 3 settings to choose from lol
Does look tighter than in a S13 but that looks to be due to the uprights ?
Finally got the car back together ish, and gave it a test drive!!
It went pretty well ill say

Get a few more miles on it before I get too excited all is well

how did the test drive feel???
love this car. it's ****ing awesome!! just out of interest, where'd the carbon bonnet go?
Cheers guys.
The carbon bonnet is on top of the unit 'office'- a friend of mine has dibs on it for now (been pestering me for a long time to buy it!)
The stock bonnet still doesnt fit that well, as bonnet rests on the boost hose to inlet so slightly raises it. I didnt fancy cutting another hole for it so left it like that for now
With the big day at Snetterton looming a went out for a good old fashion 'test drive'
My idea of a test drive is, simply go out to kill it.
Well, errr yeh, test drive was effective as I killed it
top of 5th, nearing 7k. about to pull 6th I see a nice cloud of smoke come from the bonnet
Slow down, to find the car rapidly filling with smoke.. luckily there was a layby there which I pulled safely into, jump out on guard with a fire extinguisher
Oil was everywhere, With this I assumed I had chucked a rod.

Get it back to the unit, next day went and picked up this for cheap. rare early e38, as only got the 4 litre. 'perfect'

12 months MOT and 1 months tax still left on it... was such a nice drive home and a real shame to break it...
Until the cat man visited and gave me 30% of what I paid for the complete car in cash just for the cats
That night, with massive help from the guy I share a unit with- pulled the engine out the S14

Night after pulled the lump from the e38, then noticed a **** load of difference because of BMW "revisions" So had to swap a load of stuff over. then went to put the gearbox on.
err yeah, fail. Need a spigot bearing. bollocks.
This delayed stuff.
Basically, got tired and stressy. knew I wouldn't make it and if I was, I would of been driving what, IMO could only be described as a poorly thrown together kebab... So gave up, went down the pub and thought to myself what a shit weeks thats been
Oh, to add. Was blow by, piston rings gone on a cylinder. maybe det? As I found the vac hose split to FPR... not sure if I done this when replacing it (live and learn to double check) or if when pulling the engine out. who knows. or it could be the fact she was on her last legs anyway and the boost just finished it off.

I still can't believe you went out for a rag without a wide band to keep an eye on the fuelling. Especially as it hasn't been mapped to suit boost.
At least you managed to get another engine to nail in there.
Was that sarcasm? Because I missed it if it was?
Best £150 I spent on my engine the AEM wideband kit was. Saved it several times already.
So today after work I decided I best get down the unit and get it running.
You'll note that the charger is missing.
For anyone who i'm not friends with on facebook:
"After a long think I'm giving up with the 'charger for a while. Regret ever doing it... Always been keep it simple, keep it cheap, have fun... Believe it or not my car was built on a very cheap budget until the 'charger, and since then it has been no fun, far from cheap or ****ing simple!!.
Ill just have to keep my foot in for a little longer hope to be at a track soon smashing some doors in"
Hearing the new heart run has definitely given me the kick to get it finished and back out soon.

Shame about the charger as it would of been epic but... You did awesome in it before so can understand why you have decided to pass on it for a while

Would that charger fit the M62 ?

Bad news mate
You could always rebuild the dead motor over time and bolt the charger back on at a later date
Chris, it will happen in the future, just with soooo much going on over the past few months I don't want to miss out
If would; but for foreseeable future its not forsale.
Bit shit aye Ben, but live and learn!
I'm going to sell the other engine on- I just haven't got the skill to rebuild something like that
Oh, and I got posted this to my facebook wall, it was shot the last time at Snetterton. love this corner- top of 4th (make sure its in HD!)
