Question Should I reuse this Apexi Head gasket? (pics inside)

    Hello,

I am on the way to fix a head gasket failure. I have found the Apexi head gasket seems to be in good shape after all. Only scratches in the paint. The reddish marks are traces of cooper spray.

So, do you think it would be possible to reuse this HG again? I am posting big pictures to let you check it well.

    Thank you.

I have been told many times that it's ok to reuse a metal head gasket BUT i have always replaced for new just in case.

if your happy with redoing everything if it doesnt seal then go ahead and reuse it but most people put new gaskets on

Yes, it seems that re-using the oldone is stupid.

But I need a 86mm bore head gasket and Cosworth is only available for 87mm bore. The Apexi is silly expensive but it is the only one for 86mm bore I found (Tomei is more than silly expensive).

Cosworth are made by Cometic BUT are not the same as the Cometic gaskets

    Didn't realise they only do 67mm !

Well stupid it may seem but I've done it at least thrice now and all of the cars are still running fine

Metal gaskets will put up with being re used a few times

I'm currently running over 2 bar through a reused cometic with no issues.

you can re-use it and you can also use a very thin layer of blue hylomar (you need to separate all the sheets from the gasket) and it will seal just fine...
but be carefull, when I say "very thin layer" it's really really thin.

Well I'd not recommend it to someone that was having their engine rebuilt by a specialist for example, but when you're doing the work yourself it comes down to a straight £100-£150 vs free but a small element of risk of having to do another 3-4 hours work.
