Fantastic - can we look forward to some track action vids when it's done? Or even just some roundabout/dual-carriageway blats, as that's where it'll be really at home - a perfect Milton Keynes car!
I love this, they are great engines and with a bit of tuning could be a surprisingly competitive car seeing as you'll have a bucket more torque than most S13s.

Anyone else support a ban if he doesnt finish this one??

What are you going to do about the final drive ratio, would have thought the standard 3.9:1 would be useless...
it shouldnt need changing id have thought due to the gearbox being the main difference between a derv motor and the petrol equivilent.
although looking at it the 525ds has a 2.64:1 ratio !!!!
even if this doesnt have much power, with a 3:9 itll spin the wheels all the way up to 60 when its flat in 5th lol
Where did you get that info?
3.25:1 according to this..

Shouldn't be too bad with a S14 manwel diff if that's true.
EDIT: not that it matters as it'll be up for fail, sorry sale, again next week.
it was the first thing that came up when i searched on the net, it was for a 525d manual, i did wonder if that was a little too long but i know naff all about bmw,s.
if what you say is true id leave the s13 diff in place for a closer box and more driftability.
Just occurred to me that if you wanted an S-body that sounded like a diesel, you could have saved money by fitting an SR.....
I'll get my coat .
Liking the sound of this and pondered doing it myself, but just am too lazy
Plus you get to try and blend the SXOC & the SXBMWOC by being in between
Only just spotted this project - this is one of the coolest S Body projects I've seen in a while. It's been discussed before, so I'm glad to see it happening. I had a 525TDS and thought it was a great car. The engine could do with a bit more power, but other than that it is a good one - other than on tickover it doesn't sound like a diesel and on the move it does actually sound nicer than an SR
Sweet sound of six, smooth engine, frugal and in a slippery body, what else could a man want?
It should be insured as the same insurance group as the bmw diesel engine came from, possibly cheaper insurance then too?

I would not have cared much for the diesel tappy tappy noise if my S13 was 250 ish bhp with the same torques getting 40+ mpg!
WIN IMO
