although the sr sounds gay it is a good engine and will definitely compliment how the car goes, just keep the exhaust quiet then you wont have to hear it

    nail on head

Who says a car can't have a soul if it's had an engine swap, its what you make of it at the end of the day and it seems like the op has put a lot of thought into this and is not just fcuking around with an angle grinder for the sake of it

I usually like originality in a car, especially one as classic as this. However, the SR has got to be a much better engine than the one coming out and it will transform the car entirely. If the rest of the project, as a whole, is done sympathetically, it will be the tits. A bit of under bonnet insulation and a decent exhaust (I'm thinking along the lines of the twin exit sensible) would sort the rattly sound issues of the SR out no problem.

Amazing work. I'm not sold on the engine going in there either TBH - I think for the amount of work you're going to the engine choice is the wrong one. BUT, it's your car and you're doing it very well indeed, so I'm not going to knock you for it

I'd like to do a CA powered S14a, quite surprised that I haven't seen one yet, tbh. The resulting thread would be epic.

IIRC there is one, or has been one kicking about on here somewhere.

I'm thinking of a s13 powered by a HDI ... the standard ca18 doesn't really have anything above 3.5/4k rpm anyway
If a diesel engine wasn't more expensive than my whole s13, I probably would have already done it.

And there is at least one CA powered s14a in the world, but I have no idea where it is.
And a VQ35DET powered 205 in France (for drag races ... it replaced the 2jz which was in it before).

You've a very interesting project there fella & a lovely-looking car to-boot! As long as it doesn't sound pants I'd say this will be an epic wee classic! For all the audiophiles out there there are exhaust systems & manifolds in particular that you can use to make sure the exhaust note doesn't take away from it's original nature.

It'd be comical to hear that jetting past you with a dirty big pigeon noise coming from the bonnet!!

People would be tossing off over it if it had a CA in it!

    Keep up the good work.

As mentioned previously the Nissan motor dropped stright onto the existing mounting points. So I ordered some new uprated competition mounts from Classic Alfa (basically stiffer rubber) and fabricated mounts combining part Nissan and Part Alfa from 3mm steel plate.

It did not take long to realise that using a top mount would be simpler than a bottom mount turbo due to space restrictions. I could have chopped the inner wings about but I want to preserve the car as much as possible. [update:-Later you will see that I changed this to a mild steel version as the shiny chome kept cracking].

The manifold flange is for a T3 rather than the T28 so I bought a T2 flange put the stainless wire in the mig and after some cutting and welding had a new flange to accept the T28.

After spending two days scaping and burning off old soundproofing I could lay down some etch promer.

Then off to Powerspeed to get them to make me one of their lovely stainless exhausts 3" down pipe to 2.5" full system. Good for well over the 300hp I am looking for. Key design brief was to keep it looking standard at the back.

    .

Engine bay all looking a bit skanky so need to clean this up....

    More on this later
