The Mk2 Escort was a joint development with the German division of Ford so, strictly speaking, it does sort of qualify for inclusion in this thread

Really? In that case, humble pie for dinner! I was desperately looking for german conenctions as I thought I was being daft - closest I could come was that it appears to be running on Schmidts!

Gotcha. Strictly speaking American yes but built in Germany (amongst other places) like Opel, who are part of General Motors, who are American. The mark 2 was also developed in Saarlouis, Germany so kinda makes it a German car.......kinda

You could also argue that the Lotus Carlton should not be there as technically speaking the only contribution Opel made was a carlton rolling shell and a 3litre engine, which was then bored out to 3.6 by lotus. The gearbox and hydraulic rear axle (squats down above certain speeds effectively lowering the cars centre of gravity thus sucking it to the road) were robbed from a corvette Zr1 iirc. Almost all the other major parts were robbed from GM's odds n ends bin.

Edit: Aitch got there before I did, damned facebook chat lol
