Nice raxles pabro
Good work dude
Down the garage again this weekend Delboy was present and I commandered him and his camera for taking pictures for this post. Thanks for you help dude
Damping now set to 3, seems to give a nice balance with the rear Koni shocks.
Got hold of a new set of leads for the old girl
10mm jobbies, compared to the originals
Fitted
I also ordered a few Prothane bushes from H-Tune, some front suspension bushes and the front lower arm bushes and they arrived in good time albeit Energy ones.
Got some Cyber Speed roll centre adjusting ball joints too.
So I cracked on and got the knuckles and lower arms off the car, pressed out the bushes and grabbed the new ones to go in....hmmm they look a bit too narrow and not wide enough to fit
I probably could have barstardised them to fit, but then noticed the label on the box.
So I had to press the old one back in Still, I managed to get the suspension mount bushes in which was something, but will have to go back again when the I get the right size bushes for the inners.
Then on with the ball joints.
Comparison of old and new
Back in
After all this was done I was kind of expecting the need to pull my front arches out a bit more to cover the wheels due to the ball joints, but when I sat it back down it was almost in exactly the same postion as before.
Also a little update with the strange noise. When I fitted the dampers it almost got rid of it all together, only the most extreme right turns you would just get a hint of it. Now the bushes and ball joints are fitted its actually made it worse even just turning gently right now and you can hear it starting. The only things I can think of are the intermediate bearing, or possibly my upper arm bushes which I have seen and are shagged on that side. They wil get changed shortly. Front subby bush and rear mounts are the only other things left that may cause it that I can think of right now.
Will just have to work through them until its cured
No worries with the photo's fella
Was a real shame that those bushes weren't the right ones, good job the old bush wasn't too badly fcuked up when you pressed it out!
Car was looking cracking yesterday mate, really like the little hugs mobile
The wrong bushes went back and the right ones got sent out. Handily they came with the upper wishbone bushes in that particular kit too. Yesterday evening after work I just had time to nip down to the garage and use the press. Didn't fancy or have time for another complete strip down of the front suspension, so just went for the upper bushes.
As I mentioned the oldies had had it so the steering instantly felt a bit better, but the strange noise was still there, just moved up to a slightly higher speed
My monies still on the intermediate bearing for the full cure
Glad you have the right bushes now dude.
Assume you'll be down Dal's on Sat again? I'll be there trying to suss my rear toe issue
Only just seen this, awesome car dude
Really loving this pabs.
Wheels look so good on.
Great looking car, the wheels suit it really well.
Every weekend I seem to pull the front of my car apart
Got the arms out again and changed the inner bushes
While I was there I checked the intermediate shaft out. There seemed to be quite a bit of in and out movement in it and the rubber seal didn't appear to be sitting correctly, although I've no idea what a new one should look like.
I wonder how much a new one is from Honda Or I could just get a good used one? It would be nice for it to last a fair while before having to change it again
Nice toolbag Cars looking good, alot of front end fettling!
Only just noticed this thread, now I know its not to everyones liking to do this to an SiR, but a couple of pics to give you an idea;
