Mines fine, looks like a local problem.
We have been having problems for weeks with virgin.
our download was 32mb should be closer to 50mb our upload was going down as low as 0.28mb :O
there service seems to be going down hill
Contention ratio problems?
Too many people connected to their ISP?
Try it at 01:00 and see if it any better.
One of the noobs in my team at work asked me the other week "When you get packet loss, where do they go?"
I told him they would be on the floor behind the rack in the comms room that held the Cisco routers
For a second i actually think he believed me
HA, you'd be surprised how many people would believe you!
from reading up on my xbl issues i think they have done some traffic management changes at peak times in the past few weeks it seems to be quite an issue with some people.
xbl has been horrific for weeks now for me and many others
appreantly they are on to fixing it it has got better in the last few days they did some testing from the virginforum members who reported issues
hopefuly it should be ok in te next week or so
I noticed our ip address has really changed pocket loss is low tho just getting a poor service.
yeah virgin has been low today tbh
You're complaining about 9megs? I get 2 meg through BT on a good day where I live!
Yep, I've noticed it too. Think I first noticed it on Friday just gone. My ultimate download speed is pretty much the same but it takes ages to build up to it. Before it was straight up there.

Big boo! Speedtest seems to have changed and now i can't see my results from the last god knows how many years
How do the symptoms of packet loss present themselves?
I'm on Virgin's 10meg service and downloads (provided they're well seeded/on a good server) will fly down at the maximum 10meg a second, but when not downloading quite a few websites will take ages for the page to come up and then ages more for them to finish loading all the content on it.
Virgin sucks balls. I used to think it was my wireless set up but I've since changed my routers and stuff and it's still the same.
Every now and then just drops horrendous amounts
Warning, pedantic reply coming up
Actually, you CAN download at 10Mb/s on a 10Mb line . I do know what you meant to say, but the lack of correct capitalisation with MB and Mb just ends up confusing these matters.
I know it's petty but it's quite important actually .
re. the OP's problem, what router are you using? Virgin are still having problems with their Superhubs .
Problem is people get very confused between Mega Bits per second and Mega Bytes per second when discussing rates.
Mega Bytes per second is what is normally noticed in browser downloads, it is not to be confused with Mega Bits per second which is what your ADSL provider likely quotes.
8 Megabits per second is not the same as 8 Megabytes per second, there is a vast different between them.
