Project 'sensible' - I'm old, I can deal with it

Yes that's right, I am now officially old

Sold the DC2 to Delboy a month or so ago and went in search of something comfortable on a cruise. What I've bought certainly fits the bill - but it's also a DIESEL and an AUTOMATIC and an ESTATE It is, however, at least RWD

Here it is in all its glory

However, I knew I'd get totally bored of anything gutless in less than 5 minutes - so it had to be something with a bit of punch, so the all important detail is:....

In the words of James May - it goes like a stabbed rat

Done about 800 miles in her so far, including driving back from Wales after collecting her. She's been fantastic - what a drive. For a big car it doesn't feel it and when you do want to get on it, there's bundles of torque to just surge you down the road - it's seriously sweet

Playing around with the traction control is - err - interesting Who knew Daneholes Roundabout could be so much fun

So anyway, middle agedness comes to us all. I'll rock this for a bit before I go off and invest in some string back driving gloves and a flat cap

Must be quite a shock having something called "torque", in fact having quite a lot of it.

That ones mapped too isn't it? got around 400 torques i believe! I've driven this and can vouch its a flying machine! (Well for a deisel estate anyway )

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

Nice, whats the plans? X5 19's will look pretty sweet on that, or some 18in style 5's, if you can find any. But what ever you do, ditch the MV2's

l miss my E46 Touring. Seriously good cars and fun enough with it. Hope you've been holding the traction control button down when you switch it off though

The MV2's aren't in particularly good condition so I think they will be being replaced at some point - not really considered what to get yet; although have seen some 5 spoke M wheels that look nice, god knows what they are though.

Not changing bumpers Alright, maybe I will one day. Conflicting views on the MV2's already

It already was full of them - just half chewed That's partly the reason I had the car fully detailed today

Right - so the car was looking a bit, err, sorry for itself TBH. It's in good overall shape but I don't think it's been treated to a serious bath for quite a few years

This is what it looked like this morning at 7:15

    Nice door pocket fluff

Clearly, this was not an acceptable state of cleanliness to take photographs of so I'd booked good ol' Jem to come over and spend a while detailing - little did he know it'd take him 10 hours to get it presentable

    Maybe I do, maybe I don't

Jem set to work on the interior first - picking up the fluff from every orifice There was so much gunk in it, I thought he was going to have to empty his hoover

The interior mats were filthy - so they got a good hosing down

And then got hung out to dry on my line

The wheels were in a bit of a horrid way, and really needed some hardcore attention to get them clean. They came out almost a different colour after Jem had finished with the detergent, brush and jet-wash

The bodywork had lots of swirls and scratches along with 10 years worth of grime baked in.

The scratches were pretty bad in places - especially the bonnet

The clay bar took a bit of a beating getting all the contaminants out

But once that was done, it was time for the car to be taped up ready for the machine paint correction

Jem got handy with the rotart polisher

Then checked his handiwork carefully before deciding it needed a more aggressive compound

And before you knew it, well actually it took hours and a lot of his hard work but the results were excellent

Will leave it there for now.

Couldn't thank Jem enough for giving the ol' girl a new lease of life - she's looking fit to do another 10 years now, the paint's like glass and the finish on her is amazing

Well worth the time and investment

You got any pictures of the completed car arry?

Having seen the pictures of Jems car, I'm sure it'll be a top job.

They're at the top of the thread fella - that was immediately following the work done. Shame they've not come out more vibrant but it was best part of half 7 by the time I got to take them and it had clouded over in prep for rain No light = no shine.

It was also difficult trying to get the camera to focus on the glass shine of the paint because it didn't like it, probably because of the light again.

I'm hoping it was the dog - otherwise these welshies really are getting more depraved

Hope not - it's sound enough as is. I think I'm going to stick it in for a big service soon ie the Inspection 2. Probably worth the £250 to get it all looked at and see what's what - I have a specialist local ish to me so no real bother.

Bugger. Clicked on new posts and it took me to Jem doing the work.

    Does look good.

I'm leaning towards a comfy cruiser myself for the next car.
