actually what exactly should we see fuel price at the pump go down by if duty is down 1p?

    http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/petrol-bills-calculator

at 1p a litre saving at the pumps will see me save £5.46/y

Sort out the economy and the dollar to pound ratio will reduce the cost of fuel :-) That's where the concentration should be .. sorting our economy out.

Riding my bike is saving me about £5 a day (for each day I cycle) in fuel money. Can't believe I'm doing it, but tough times.

    That's only 546 litres/year which isn't very much... Someone driving 15k pa at 40mpg would save a whopping £16.88

Most of the plebs on facebook are unable to comprehend politics or complicated financial issues so its not surprising

Doesn't do much to disprove the view that we're a nation of moaners.

Agreed- BUT, most people are gonna just think 'whatever, it'll increase by more than 1p next week anyway' so it won't affect anyones confidence in the amount of free cash they have to spend. I'm quite surprised they didn't introduce some sort of cap on fuel prices just to boost peoples confidence that they'll still be able to afford to get to work in 6months time...

Its laughable when you look at how little difference these fuel prices really make compared to the fuss they create though, if they knocked 30p off a litre I'd only be saving £10 per week, and thats driving a 20mpg V8 BMW

Imagine the outburst if they had decided to increase it by 1p though.

    Oh noes!

    12000 miles a year @ 25mpg.

Fuel cost of 38.9p a litre is made up of

    Total (per year) - £3030.91
    Duty - £1264.52
    VAT - £505.15
    Actual cost of fuel: £1261.24

reduce the fuel duty by 1 pence and I say 42p a week.

    I don't get your point.

You do realise that the economy is fooked? They can't just magically cut costs.

Yet to see any alternatives to cutting fuel duty either.

The economy will ALWAYS be ****ed. we live in a world that relies on debt and money lending.

If you EVER think we will be debt free then you need your head checked.

That's not a lot of fuel though is it... if you're only spending £40/week on fuel for a 20mpg car then you're not doing all that much driving in it. That's less than half a tank at todays prices.

    spot on.

My brother for instance is a courier and will quite often go from London to Scotland so the price in fuel has had a massive effect on his earnings, to the point where he is struggling.

    What?

So we're going to have a budget deficit forever? Manageable debt isn't a bad thing.

I'm still to see an alternative to reducing fuel duty by the way.

I'm not sure what you're complaining about, please clarify.

When YOU are in debt in your own lifestyle, what do you do to get out of debt?

    Do you:

A, go to your boss and DEMAND more money.

    B, reduce your spending.

That's exactly what they're doing though, hence the cuts enforced last year.

Without sounding rude, I don't think you quite know what you're moaning about, if you do you're not exactly willing to say what it is for some reason?
