Keep the l28 and tune that or drop in an rb25/26, infact any straight 6 will do the job
You know you can't make a z sound as bad as an sr - you will be bum sexed by Daz and channie for the rest of your life if you do that

Buy my RB26!
Or be a man and stick a meaty V8 in!
A straight 6 is the only option really.
Like Mel says, if you fit an SR then me & channie will butt rape you.
I just want to see this one get close to being finished.
I think you should compare weights of all possible engines and try and use one that will give nearest 50/50 balance with the chassis.
Then compare sounds and come to some kind of compromise
Believe with the standard engine its 50/50 from factory, 1068kg so keeping the weight of engine similar as possible will be best for handling
That'll be the SR, would be very close to 50/50
I know, I'll get the car ready for an engine and then decide
Who cares about 50/50 handling zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
It needs to have nice noise whenever you put your foot down not sound like a wet fart SR
I think a straight 6 will be more in keeping with its roots, why not use an l28?
too old and not enough power
Is the noie of a 6 on ITB's not enough
RB it is then
Don't get me wrong I hate the SR but as dan never finishes any project it would be nice to make it simple enough to just fit and get runing.
No offence dan bit you have to see our reservations.
^^^^ Fitting any engine into any car that it wasnt originally intended for is hard work, at least with the rb or v8, they are common conversions
guys guys guys, calm down
This project will get done Engine choice can go on the back burner as there is a lot of welding etc first
Saw a lovely one of these on Saturday at Mclaren
It had quite a lot of Arizona Z Cars bits on it and an L-series motor on Solex carbs... Looked nice, I wanted to buy it
FWIW... a VK56 would makes a brutal mess.
I lol'd
You've set expectations now Dan, you realise if it's not finished you will never hear the end of it
Engine wise, I couldn't care less. It's your car do what you like
If it was mine I'd be keeping an NA in line six of some description, but that's just me. Do what you want and can make work
Update, it's at the shot blasters.
I borrowed a mates recovery truck and loaded it up
Anyhow end of the week and I'll know more
I hope you'll be changing the wheels as well as the engine
Gents.
I had a look at this yesterday. It's pretty rusty. I had a nose around it and in traditional Datsun style I had a few tugs at it underneath and ripped a few bits of the car off underneath and I ended up with a pile of rust in my face.
The welding work needed on this has to take place before anything and it's gonna be a fair old bit of work. It's going to the most time consuming bit of the project.
Engine choices can take place another day.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
By the time the floors, sills, etc. have been replaced fossil fuels will be a distant memory
