What car - 5k - fussy woman owner

I did type a massive post detailing what she wants and what we have looked at, but the SX decided to ask me to log in when I hit post, then lost everything I wrote. BASTARD!

Anyhoo, jist of it all is:

    1) Needs to be sub 60,000 miles
    2) Cannot be really old, around 03 is the oldest.
    3) Cannot be terrible on fuel
    4) Reliablility is important

She used to own a 06 Ibiza with 30,000 miles on it, but that met a unfortunate end and now she is left looking for a car with 5k.

All the big performance players are off the books - Leon Cupra and a Civic Type R was cars I liked the look of - but insurance after 2 crashes and 1YNC didnt agree with her rolling in at £1900 for a year.

Skoda vRS ticks all the boxs, but comes in over budget which is a pain as she likes them.

I like the looks of the ST220 - alot of car for relatively little money, strong engine, big size, loads of extras and luxury and can be had on pretty low millage for under budget - she instantly dismisses it as my daily is a ST24 and I worked it out to be getting me 23MPG which is pretty appauling.

Anything good out there? She doesnt like the Clios, and I get a tad frustrated look at little cars like the Polo with a crappy interior and no extras knowing that something like the ST offers so much more.

    Cheers

What about the Civic Sport as opposed to the Type R? not bad on juice and will be cheaper on insurance than a Type R.

It's 20 times as boring, though Gets no trick bits and the suspension set up isn't brilliant. It's still a good drive, but it's not what I'd call even remotely exciting

slightly different but what about a mercedes e320 diesel?
lots of comfort, lots of toys, good economy
for the budget it looks like you could just squeeze in a 2001 S class also

You dont mention if it has to have any performance? I am assuming by the cars you have mentioned it does

She doesnt really care too much about performance - anything 80bhp+ from a 1200kg car and she would be happy. I just point to the more performance side, and they seem to offer the most extras and the nicer inside.

I showed her the Clio 182 before, and she wont have any of it. Dismisses it as quickly as the 220 - but instead because she once owned a 15 year old banger clio and it chucked it cam belt. Women are funny things.

OK so this particular one is miles away (and is slightly over on the mileage) but you get the gist:

    BMW 320td (E46 Compact)

    1993 [L] RS13 200SX
    2003 [53] MX-5 Angels
