Spent a fair chunk of today researching this a a gearbox option following the Z32 box thread of Vidal Babboon's.
So fair, I have ascertained the following...
For the swap you require;
Conversion Parts
- The gearbox, later than 03 preferably(due to crap synchros), but nothing after 08, as it seems the bellhousing pattern changed
- Adaptor plate - Currently available from George on zilvia.net at $500 before shipping, or Mazworx sold some but aren't available on their site ATM.
- Machined bell housing - quite large, so may be an issue for some machine shops
- 350z slave cylinder with braided clutch line (longer clutch line, slave cylinder sits on the left hand side of the car)
- shortened remote shifter bracket
- Custom gearbox cross member
- custom prop shaft - shorter, and the tail shaft yoke is the most important part. 350z have a 32 spline yoke, no other nissan's share this yoke. You may have to cut the yoke off a stock one and give it to your prop maker.
- The gear stick hole in the chassis will need to be cut at the rear section, still works with stock interior trim.
- Any sr clutch will work fine. You may have to modify the slave rod to suit your clutch
- SR20DET startor motor bolts up fine.
Gearbox Oil
2.9l of SAE 75W-85 API GL4+, usually Castrol.
Gear Ratios
1: 3.794:1
2: 2.324:1
3: 1.624:1
4: 1.271:1
5: 1.000:0
6: 0.794:1
Maximum Speeds in each gear using a standard s14 manual diff and a 7500rpm rev limit;
1st 39mph
2nd 64mph
3rd 91mph
4th 116mph
5th 148mph
6th 186mph
Speed Indication
The Z33 gearbox has no speed sensor built in. One way around this is to use a product like this from Dakota Digital, and wire it to convert the signal from the ABS sensor on the S14 diff.
Any further information is more than welcomed.
